Ever wonder what Clive Barker’s legendary horror series “Books of Blood” might sound like?

As announced earlier this year, the celebrated collection of stories that established Barker as one of the masters of horror will be getting a release on the Madefire Motion Books platform, the interactive digital comic book company that incorporates music, sound effects and panoramic views into the reading experience.

Now, Madefire has announced that composer Cris Velasco will be creating the soundtrack for the digital version of the stories.

The “Books of Blood” series, originally published as six separate books in the mid-’80s, inspired Stephen King to tout Barker as the “future of horror,” and launched the author’s and filmmaker’s illustrious career.

Best known for scoring video games such as “Darksiders,” “God of War” and “Mass Effect,” Velasco is no stranger to creating the eerie, haunting tones needed to accompany a Barker work, as he provided the soundtrack for the Barker-penned video game “Jericho,” released in 2007.

“I’m thrilled to be working with Clive again,” Velasco said in a statement. ” ‘Books of Blood’ were the first stories of his that I ever read. They were the very catalyst that sent me down a path of imagination and creativity, and have continued to influence me to this day. Working on this project has brought me back full circle, and I couldn’t be happier!”

In a statement, Barker expressed his enthusiasm over working with Velasco again.

“It pleases me to no end to announce that, once again, Cris Velasco will be providing the soundtrack to my worlds. Not only is Cris one of my favorite composers, he’s one of my favorite people. His work on ‘Jericho’ was unparalleled, and what he has brought to ‘Books of Blood’ is, I assure you, nothing short of astonishing. Prepare yourselves for an experience the likes of which you’ve never seen.”

Founded in 2011, Madefire has put themselves at the forefront of the digital comics movement, most notably with “Batman: Arkham Origins – A DC2 Multiverse Graphic Novel,” which served as a prequel set in the universe of the massively successful “Batman: Arkham Asylum” video game franchise. The Madefire team will be appearing at Comic-Con this week to promote their latest developments, including the introduction of an Android-friendly version, with a panel on Thursday called “How to Break Into Comics Using the Motion Book Tool” from 6 to 7 p.m. in Room 2, Upper Level.

Barker, who is also a visual artist, will also have a presence at Comic-Con. He’ll be displaying his artwork this week in San Diego with “Clive Barker Parade: An exhibition of erotic artworks” at the Alexander Salazar Fine Art studio. The opening reception will be Friday from 7 to 9 p.m.
