The San Diego-based comics publisher has joined forces with DC Entertainment for “Star Trek/Green Lantern: The Spectrum War,” a special six-part event set to kick off in July.

“We’ve looked forward to bringing these two iconic universes together for a long time,” said Greg Goldstein, IDW president and chief operating officer, in a statement released before the panel. “Star Trek and Green Lantern both share so many of the same science-fiction adventure themes and ideals, that a galaxy-spanning crossover like this is simply … logical.”

The monthly “Star Trek/Green Lantern: The Spectrum War” will be written by Mike Johnson, a veteran “Star Trek” comic writer, with interior art by Angel Hernandez of “Infinite Crisis: Fight for the Multiverse” and “Arrow.” Announced cover artists for the first issue include Gabriel Rodriguez, Francesco Francavilla, Elsa Charretier, and Garry Brown.

“Green Lantern is one of the most popular, storied characters in the history of comic books and a modern DC Comics icon,” said Bob Harras, editor-in-chief of DC Comics in a statement. “An entire universe of Green Lanterns and other supporting characters have grown out from his original adventures in the 1940s, and this series really showcases the intergalactic scope of the franchise.”

The series will be set in “Star Trek’s” 23rd century with Starfleet meeting the Green Lantern Corps when the Green Lantern Corps’ Power Rings fall into the wrong hands. The Enterprise crew and Hal Jordan’s team join forces for an intergalactic adventure that spans space and time.

WonderCon, the annual pop culture expo held at the Anaheim Convention Center, continues through Sunday. Make sure to check back with Hero Complex for more WonderCon coverage throughout the weekend.
