‘Hunger Games’ stars will meet fans Thursday in L.A.
Fans of “The Hunger Games” can meet cast members from the upcoming film at a book signing Thursday evening in Los Angeles. Organizers declined to say which stars will attend, but indicated key cast members will be included.
The signing will be held at 6 p.m. at the Barnes & Noble at the Grove shopping center. More than 100 fans who purchased a Nook tablet device earlier this month during Barnes & Noble’s “Hunger Games” promotion received VIP wristbands for Thursday’s in-store signing and will be first in line for the event, which also includes themed activities and prizes.
Non-VIP standby passes will be made available beginning at 9 a.m. Thursday at the store, where all fans will receive a free poster, and a limited number of fans can receive a wristband with the purchase of “Hunger Games” books, including “The Hunger Games Official Illustrated Movie Companion” and “The Hunger Games Tribute Guide,” said Jan Lindstrom Valerio, who organized dozens of similar events at Barnes & Noble stores around the country.
“It’s just been such a hit, the book and the series,” Lindstrom Valerio said. “It’s a super-popular trilogy, not only with customers, but our school customers are buying it. And when we saw that the film was coming out, we just felt like this was a natural time to do a sort of cross promotion.”
After the signing, fans will be able to compete in a trivia contest, create bead-and-seashell necklaces, decorate mini-backpacks, take their picture at a “Hunger Games” logo photo station and participate in other themed activities.
“We anticipate having tons of people coming in costume,” Lindstrom Valerio said. “The store staff is dressing in costume. I think people identify more with the tributes than the Capitol, but they like dressing a la the the Capitol, because it’s colorful, and so we have people who are planning to wear peacock eyelashes and that kind of thing.”
She added that the party is similar to events held for the “Harry Potter” and “Twilight” films, “where there’s a super-popular film coming out with some really great themes that promote discussion,” she said. “People just love this book. I just think it’s going to be a really good time.”
