Ladies and gentlemen, meet your Star-Lord: Actor Chris Pratt, who currently plays the goofy and genial Andy on “Parks and Recreation,” has been tapped to play the leader of a team of interstellar superheroes in Marvel’s “Guardians of the Galaxy,” a source has confirmed to the Los Angeles Times.
The film, scheduled to come out in August of 2014, will be directed by James Gunn (“Slither,” “Super”).
So far, Pratt is the only actor attached to the project.
The other characters on the team include Rocket Raccoon, a laser gun wielding raccoon, Groot, a plant monster from outer space, and Gamora, a female martial arts master.
Pratt’s character is born Peter Quill, the son of a human mother and an alien father.
In the comic books, he grows up to become a NASA astronaut, and eventually gets his special Star-Lord powers from an alien entity called Master of the Sun. Those powers include a suit that lets him fly through space and a ship that he can communicate with telepathically.
