Luc Besson’s 2010 film adaptation of “The Extraordinary Adventures of Adèle Blanc-Sec” is finally crossing the pond. The French film, based on the popular comic by Eisner Award winner Jacques Tardi, will be released Aug. 13 on Blu-ray and DVD.

“The Extraordinary Adventures of Adèle Blanc-Sec” stars French actress Louise Bourgoin as the film’s globe-trotting, mystery-solving heroine, an erudite reporter who finds herself entangled in an early 20th-century adventure complete with mummies, the Moulin Rouge cabaret and a pterosaur.

Other cast members include Mathieu Amalric (“Quantum of Solace,” “The Diving Bell and the Butterfly”), Gilles Lellouche (“Love Me If You Dare”), Jean-Paul Rouve (“La Vie En Rose”), Jacky Nercessian (“Le Grand Voyage”), and  Laure de Clermont-Tonnerre (“The Diving Bell and the Butterfly”).

Besson (“La Femme Nikita,” “The Fifth Element”), who is no stranger to sci-fi and fantasy, penned the screenplay as well as directing the film, pulling content from several of Tardi’s fantastical “Adèle Blanc-Sec” graphic novels, including “Adèle and the Beast” and “Mummies on Parade.”

The film’s Aug. 13 home video release by Shout! Factory will be available on DVD ($14.97) or as a combo pack ($24.97), which includes Blu-Ray, DVD and digital copy. Both editions offer English and French audio tracks and English subtitles. Bonus features include deleted scenes and a making-of featurette. A director’s cut edition is forthcoming this fall.
