Quick, what was a more OMG moment:  the “Breaking Bad” series finale or the Purple Wedding episode of “Game of Thrones”?

And which on-screen relationship would you rather see: Katniss Everdeen and Peeta Mellark  from “The Hunger Games” or Damon and Elena from “The Vampire Diaries”?

It is these heady philosophical queries that MTV is asking you to answer, announcing the categories for the mtvU Fandom Awards, the network’s new awards show designed to honor fans and their favorite programming. The show is set for July 24 at Comic-Con International in San Diego; voting began Thursday, and you can cast your ballot until July 23.

FULL COVERAGE: San Diego Comic-Con 2013

Categories include “breakout fandom of the year,” “best fandom forever,” (a sort of Hall of Fame category that includes “Harry Potter” and “Batman”), the “fandom feat of the year,” and “fandom of the year,” which is to include 32 still-forthcoming nominees from movies, television dramas and comedies and animation.

The awards also celebrate fans themselves and will take place as part of a larger fete — the MTV Fan Fest, a free party at San Diego’s Petco Park open to all Comic-Con badge holders. Rap-rock auteurs turned serious hard rockers Linkin Park will be headlining the ceremony.

An hourlong special with highlights from the evening will air on MTV and MtvU on July 27.

You can check out a full list of the nominees below and see photos of costumed attendees from last year’s Comic-Con in the gallery above.

Meanwhile, the mtvU Fandom Award nominees are:

OMG moment of the year

‘Ship of the year (unspoken relationship fandoms we’re dying to see)

Breakout fandom of the year (most popular new fandoms)

Best fandom forever (BFF) presented with Tumblr

Fandom feat of the year
