Spider-Man will die on Wednesday. We knew this was coming. After all, the tragedy that will unfold in Ultimate Comics Spider-Man No. 160 has been looming for a while now, even if it takes place in the Ultimate universe.
What does that mean for fans of the arachnid warrior? Well, Peter Parker’s mighty misadventures can still be found in “regular” continuity. In fact, they’ll continue in lots of titles: The Amazing Spider-Man, The Avengers (occasionally), The New Avengers, FF (remnants of the Fantastic Four) and even in Amazing Spider-Man Digital.
But Spider-Man’s death still marks a pivotal moment.

Marvel sent out a press release to hype the occasion, and in it, senior editor Mark Paniccia says: “Ten years ago, Brian Bendis and Mark Millar changed the way people saw super heroes with the birth of the Ultimate Universe. With ‘Death of Spider-Man’ the two have done it again, creating a story just as big, and something that would really resonate with fans. But Peter’s death doesn’t signal the end of their larger plan … it’s the start of one of the most ambitious stories you’ve ever read in comics.”
So, what do you think of the Ultimate decision and all that it portends? And are you buying it?

And this is why American comics are a failing industry. No imagination. Nothing new. Same characters as fifty years ago. People are starting to stop caring, and desperate grasps at attention like this aren't enough to rescue emotionally bankrupt franchises.
I agree with Luke. Why don't they let dead character remain dead. Or keep recycling characters. Or keep recreating universes (and multiverses).
They should learn from Japanese mangas. The Korean manwha industry did.
The Ultimate Universe Marvel lines are pretty close to Manga actually. It actually makes changes that feel natural and the stories progress well in a serialized manner. The Ultimate Peter Parker is most likely staying dead, because this universe can get away with it. The “regular one” can’t.
Btw if it matters to know, this is coming from a relatively jaded comic book reader, whose been reading them since the early 80s.
First of all. Manga is garbage, unless there is a lot of westernized character to the comic. I cannot say all of it is, but a large portion of it is. They have had some great stuff, but just like always they (seriously) recycle a lot. If you are actually interested in some new concepts I would suggest BOOM comics. they area starting to amaze me. They have a new series out called "The malignant man", so far I am hooked. They also got the rights to planet of the apes. May sound cheesy, but its actually a good read.

Green brain comics !!!
what other widely known comics from other countries are there, america will allways be on top in the movie, and comic industry and ya its hard to think of new stories when uve allready made over 800 stories with spiderman in it. and this is the ultimate universe not the amazing spider man series, sothere still will be more spiderman comics comming out and u know what i bet this will be a great comic to read
why do all the heroes have to die? first superman, then you break batmans back , then captain america, now spiderman. why do all of our heroes have to die just to make you happy. i mean really, nobody asked us.you guys suck!
Where to begin? No one is being fooled by this imaginary story. This generation of writers only know how to destroy. Instead of writing actual good stories all they want to do is kill our heroes. What kid wants to read a comic where: the hero dies, the girlfriend is killed and shoved in a fridge, the wife is raped and killed, the heroes are turned into zombies who eat people….it's sick and I hate it.
hallelujah!!!
Sing it brother!
Let ‘em know!
why die and not completely dead afterall.
the original SPAWN (al simmons) have already died too, making way for a new person who inherits the mantle of SPAWN having a totally different character and situation than Al simmons have.
a superhero dies either by suicide or old age.
If people actually think he's gonna stay dead, then they obviously don't know how comics work. Anybody remember The Death of Captain America storyline where Marvel said he was gong to stay dead; and some people fell for it? When Superman was killed off, people went nuts; people who didn't know crap about comics. I mean, they'll bring every popular character back. Ultimate Spidey hasn't been the sales leader it once was, and Marvel's editors probably gave Bendis an ultimatum to do something to drive up sales, or the book would be canned. I know I stopped reading it during the Chameleon storyline. All the major heroes that were killed, maimed, replaced, or given a costume change during the 1990s were handled in these ways, because their books were sucking in the sales department. When they "kill" off characters now, the publishers take a little longer to bring them back, but they eventually come back. They'll string you along making you give hope in that each issue will offer clue as to what will happen next in bringing the character back, and then25 issues later, the character comes back. No surprise there. Unless you're an 8-year-old, then you won't fall for it. Oh, and far as some comments above about American comics being crap, let me ask you something. If you traveled to friggin' Botswana and asked someone whether they liked Superman, or Judge Dredd, they'd probably ask who the hell Judge Dredd is. As far as Japanese comics and cartoons go, don't say they're totally original. How many Robotech (especially Macross) reboots are they gonna do? How about the 40 million Gundam series out there that are sometimes barely discernable from one another. About the only Japanese character to not get a zillion reboots is Speed Racer! If I never see another manga series based on vampires, guys in trenchcaots and cowboy hats in the Mongolian "Old West" or wherever, underage girls in sailor and cheerleading outfits carrying guns, and some kid who carries a pocket sized sidekick pet around, I'll die happy.
spider-man isn't gonna stay dead because i heard a ton of people won't buy the new one and due to boycotts marvel will be forced to bring him back it also seems they killed spidey to replace him with the new guy um they have like 10 goblins (green goblin hobgoblin demogoblin etc.)
why not two spideys that would be fun to read two spideys hey whats why i liked the clone saga
(both mainstream and ultimate
I couldn’t care less. Wolverie died in the Ultimate Universe, but his character is pretty much alive in the general audience.
JAck, exactly the same thing happend to spiderman. I personally didn't like the end. Touchy although not polished. More or less, spidey just died. I expected more, to be honest. http://www.spidermangamesonly.com
This is stupid. Some comic book publisher does this every few years – 'kill' a character (they're not even doing it in regular continuity this time – it's in the ultimate universe, which doesn't really count), get a few headlines, and sell a few more copies for the next couple months, then bring back the original when nobody likes the super-p.c. minority replacement they push afterwards.
Like it or not, the early 90's speculator-driven sales boom is never coming back, but Peter Parker is. Because just like nobody like nobody accepted "Black Superman" 20 years ago, nobody is going to accept "Gay Puerto Rican Spider Man", and for the same reason: Both are obvious, crass, and slightly racist marketing ploys cooked up by a bunch of guys who can't see past race, and think kids shouldn't either.
Having read Ultimate SM from start to finish I can proudly say that this issue's final few pages were umong the best I've ever freaking seen. So emotional and Bendis is a genius.
