The newest incarnation of the Doctor is making his comic book debut this month in “Doctor Who: The Twelfth Doctor,” a new series from Titan Comics.
The first five-issue run is written by Robbie Morrison (“The Adventures of Nikolai Dante,” “2000 AD”) and features art by Dave Taylor (“Batman: Death by Design,” “2000 AD”).
In the 32-page first issue, which hits comic shops Oct. 15, Clara Oswald (as played by Jenna Coleman) is getting ready for an evening of grading papers and going out on a date when the freshly regenerated Doctor (as played by Peter Capaldi) whisks her to a faraway world where they face down alien flora and fauna.
And despite the Time Lord’s new, more serious visage, it seems he still makes time for witty banter, poking some fun at the 11th Doctor’s fashion sense.
“You humans have become a little too obsessed with your own image,” the Doctor tells Clara in the first issue. “It’s just packaging. What’s inside is what counts.”
“The last you — the you that isn’t you now — wasn’t averse to the odd bit of pretty packaging,” Clara retorts.
“You mean, the me that wore a bow-tie? The me that thought a fez — an item of apparel resembling an upturned plant-pot — was ‘cool’?” he responds. “Sophistication and timeless sartorial elegance have been restored.”
