In time for his 75th anniversary, Batman is getting his own postage stamps.

The limited edition “forever” stamps, unveiled Thursday at New York Comic Con, chronicle the Dark Knight’s evolution, depicting Batman from four eras of comic book history — the golden age, silver age, bronze age and current era of comics. The stamps also feature Gotham Police Commissioner James Gordon’s iconic Bat Signal. Check them out in the gallery above.

On hand to reveal the stamps were DC Entertainment co-publishers Dan DiDio and Jim Lee, whose art is used for the modern age stamps, as well as U.S. Postal Service executive vice president James Cochrane and art director Greg Breeding, who designed the stamp sheet.

“Batman has inspired and influenced fans around the world for generations and will continue to do so for the next 75 years and beyond,” Lee said at the ceremony, calling the new stamps “an honor.”

Cochrane noted that Bruce Wayne himself was no stranger to stamp collecting; in his childhood, he shared the hobby with his father in the 1950s comics.

This isn’t Batman’s first postage stamp appearance. The Caped Crusader appeared alongside Wonder Woman, Supergirl, Superman, the Flash, Green Arrow, Green Lantern, Aquaman, Hawkman and Plastic Man as part of a DC Comics Super Heroes stamp sheet in 2006.

The new limited edition stamp sheets are now available for purchase and, as “forever” stamps, will be equal in value to the current first-class mail 1-ounce price even as prices increase. Collectible packaging is also available to purchase.

Is the word "forever" crossed out as a dig to the 1995 Joel Schumacher "Batman Forever"?

    • joyce says:

Wherever stamps are that might be somewhere where they could be copied and used Forever is crossed out. I first noticed it in the catalogues of stamps for sale put out bt the us postal service.
