3. “X-Men” No. 10 (1965) A news report of a saber-toothed tiger and a primitive man spotted in Antarctica leads to the team’s discovery of the Savage Land, a prehistoric jungle hidden in the ice (“Boy!” Iceman says before the trip, “The South Pole is one place I’ll feel right at home!”). It’s since been the setting for many stories starring the X-Men and other Marvel characters, including a recent eventful field trip in “Wolverine and the X-Men.” (Jack Kirby / Marvel, left; Ramon Perez / Marvel, right)
