‘Harlem Shake’ videos: A sci-fi and video game lovers guide

Feb. 14, 2013 | 7:00 a.m.

Jedis and princess-saving plumbers, it’s time to get your Harlem Shake on!

Since the crazy video meme went viral earlier this week, “Star Wars” fans, video game lovers and Peanuts fans have gotten in on the Harlem Shake fun.

Almost all the Harlem Shake videos follow the same formula. Set to a clip from a song by Baauer, the videos (and the song) have a two-part structure. When the first part plays, one person — often wearing a mask — dances while being ignored by the other the people in the scene. Then the beat changes and the scene changes: Suddenly everyone is wearing crazy costumes and going nuts.

Dance meme alert: The Harlem Shake blows up, and so does Baauer

But there’s a lot of freedom in that structure.

Here’s a video featuring original vintage “Star Wars” toys doing the Harlem Shake. The creators of this video mixed the Imperial March music with the Harlem Shake clip to make what they call the “Starlem Shake”

Video game characters are not exempt from the fun either. In “Mortal Kombat Shake,” the characters from the video game get in on the dance craze.

Here are some live-action Nintendo characters getting their Harlem Shake on.

The people who brought you the “Gangnam Style” parody “Gandalf Style” chimed in with this Harlem Shake geek version featuring Gandalf.

For a more cerebral take, there’s “Harlem Shake (Slender Shake Edition v1).” It’s a joke off the video game “Slender: The Eight Pages,” in which a player dies if he or she looks into the blank humanoid face of the Slender Man.

And then there’s this one, possibly the best of the lot, featuring the gang from Peanuts.

Why are people calling this the Harlem Shake? This isn't even remotely close to the Harlem Shake. It's funny… but it's just people twitching frantically.

The internet has been making people sound real stupid. LOL

Here's another video game edition that should definitely be added to the list.
