“The Extraordinary Adventures of Adèle Blanc-Sec” arrives on Blu-ray and DVD this week, bringing Jacques Tardi’s intrepid heroine to American screens for the first time.

Luc Besson’s 2010 film, based on Tardi’s popular comic, stars French actress Louise Bourgoin as the film’s mystery-solving protagonist. Adèle, as her devoted fans know, is an erudite reporter who finds herself entangled in an early 20th century adventure, complete with the Moulin Rouge cabaret, a pterosaur and mummies. Hero Complex readers get an exclusive look at one such mummy in clip from the film. Watch the scene in the video above.

Other cast members include Mathieu Amalric (“Quantum of Solace,” “The Diving Bell and the Butterfly”), Gilles Lellouche (“Love Me If You Dare”), Jean-Paul Rouve (“La Vie En Rose”), Jacky Nercessian (“Le Grand Voyage”), and  Laure de Clermont-Tonnerre (“The Diving Bell and the Butterfly”).

Besson (“La Femme Nikita,” “The Fifth Element”) penned the screenplay as well as directed the film, pulling content from several of Tardi’s fantastical “Adèle Blanc-Sec” graphic novels, including “Adèle and the Beast” and “Mummies on Parade.”
