Edgar Wright’s much-anticipated “Ant-Man” movie is finally on Disney’s calendar. The film is slated for a Nov. 6, 2015, theatrical release, Disney and Marvel announced Monday in their latest scheduling update.
In the comics, Ant-Man is the alter ego of Dr. Hank Pym, who invents a shrinking serum and uses it on himself. In miniature form, he’s able to sneak around and take out baddies. He’s also one of the original members of the Avengers. If you’re not convinced that the tiny character is tough enough to fight alongside Iron Man and the Hulk, you weren’t in Hall H at Comic-Con International this summer, where Wright made a surprise appearance and screened test footage from “Ant-Man.” The footage revealed a hero whose agility, strength and constantly changing size made him a clever (and deadly) character.
Though Marvel has yet to widely release that footage, a fan made waves last month when he released a video re-creating the footage using animation. The result is pretty close to what was screened in Hall H. Check it out in the video below.
Marvel also announced Monday that Iron Man will be taking his superpowers to another dimension; “Iron Man 3,” due out May 3, 2013, will be released in 3-D, following the success of the 3-D releases of several Marvel films, including “The Avengers” and “Captain America: The First Avenger.”
“Thor: The Dark World,” due out Nov. 8, 2013, will also be released in 3-D. Both films are conversions from 2-D shoots.
Also in the scheduling update were confirmations of already-announced movie titles and release dates. “Captain America: The Winter Solider” is due out April 4, 2014, and “Guardians of the Galaxy” is due out Aug. 1, 2014.
In non-Marvel news, the “Phineas and Ferb” movie, originally slated to be released July 28, 2013, has been pushed back to 2014, the exact date to be determined. “Saving Mr. Banks,” about the origins of Disney’s “Mary Poppins,” is now to be released on Dec. 20, 2013, and Disneynature’s “Bears” is due out April 18, 2014.
Two as-yet-untitled animated films from Disney Animation and Pixar Animation are slated for Nov. 7, 2014, and Nov. 25, 2015, respectively.
