“Terminator: Genisys” star Arnold Schwarzenegger delivers his trademark line in a radically new environment in the newly released clip for Paramount’s summer action film.
In the new TV spot, scheduled to debut this weekend during the Super Bowl, Schwarzenegger assures Sarah Connor (Emilia Clarke) of his swift return while jumping from a moving aircraft into the night sky. The brief but fast-paced clip is the latest to showcase footage from the movie, which will return the iconic sci-fi franchise to the screen.
Directed by Alan Taylor (“Game of Thrones,” “Thor: The Dark World”), “Terminator Genisys” radically recasts Schwarzenegger’s cyborg as a father figure to Sarah Connor — he’s now known as the Guardian. But the fundamental setup of the film mirrors James Cameron’s groundbreaking favorite from 1984, with John Connor (Jason Clarke) sending his close ally Kyle Reese (Jai Courtney) traveling through time to protect his mother.
This time, though, Sarah doesn’t need quite as much rescuing. In an interview with Hero Complex, Emilia Clarke, known to many from her work on “Game of Thrones,” promised a “bad-ass” interpretation of the character.
Still, the film, written by Laeta Kalogridis and Patrick Lussier, has received some scrutiny over its plot, with die-hard fans upset over a retooled origin for the series’ heroine.
“Terminator Genisys” is slated to open in theaters July 1, with Matt Smith, Byung-Hun Lee and J.K. Simmons rounding out the cast.
