VIDEO: ‘Avatar’ director Jim Cameron and his stars on opening night

Dec. 20, 2009 | 11:12 p.m.

Wow, what an opening weekend for “Avatar.” The movie pulled in an estimated $232.2 million worldwide and, more than that, with glowing reviews from elite film critics, I’m betting the movie will have a relatively small drop-off in its second week.

Here at the Hero Complex we brought you a month-long countdown to the film with the most in-depth and (hopefully) insightful coverage that could be found anywhere. On Friday night, that extended visit to Pandora reached its climax with a truly special event: I was lucky enough to host the Envelope screening of “Avatar” in Hollywood and then, onstage, interview some of the key players from the film: director James Cameron, producer Jon Landau and two of their stars in the film, Sam Worthington and Sigourney Weaver.

Here’s video of my opening questions to the panel.

We’ll be posting more video from the night over the next few days. I don’t mind stretching it out a bit. I get the feeling that “Avatar” isn’t going anywhere any time soon.

I thought it was a great discussion. Your knowledge and obvious affection both for talent and subject seemed to put your guests at ease. Not may moderators can work Kipling AND Conrad into a Hollywood conversation! A very enjoyable event. Keep up the great work.

This MOVIE IS A LIBERALS WET DREAM.
THEY EVEN USE THE "SHOCK AND AWE" REFERENCE TO TIE THE EVIL MILITARY IN THE MOVIE TO THE U.S. MILITARY.
    JAMES CAMERON IS A LOSER!

dear people who have ever written or said anything bad about avatar, you have no soul. when you write those comments and reviews your just trying to sound cool by telling everyone how observant you are or how much of an experienced movie watcher you are, but really your just being an immature A hole with no life. But for those of you who are a fan of avatar, you are a human and if your like me this movie opened eyes if not changed your life toward a greater understanding of the balance of life and and how corrupt our world is. Eventually we will kill ourselves with our lust for money and material possessions. maybe we should try to live more like the na'vi a.k.a. native Americans. fun fact we killed four times more native Americans than the Holocaust killed Jews.
