A new video clip from the upcoming superhero blockbuster “Avengers: Age of Ultron” features Marvel’s mightiest in a fun-spirited faceoff involving an otherworldly weapon.

The clip, which debuted during Tuesday’s episode of “Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.,” shows the Avengers gathered at what appears to be Stark Tower, enjoying drinks and takeout. When Thor (Chris Hemsworth) places his hammer, Mjolnir, on the coffee table, a challenge of sorts is issued.

“Whosoever, be he worthy, shall have the power — yeah, whatever man, it’s a trick,” Jeremy Renner’s Hawkeye says, mocking the inscription on the Asgardian hammer.

“No, it is much more than that, my friend,” Thor laughs.

“If I lift it, do I get to rule Asgard?” Tony Stark (Robert Downey Jr.) challenges. “I will be fair but firmly cruel.”

What follows is a comedic montage of superheroes attempting to lift the hammer, and, of course, failing.

A few don’t try (“Oh, no, no, no, that’s not a question I need answered,” Scarlett Johansson’s Black Widow explains), and Thor’s brow furrows a bit when Captain America (Chris Evans) is able to nudge the hammer ever so slightly.

“The handle’s imprinted,” Stark concludes. ” ‘Whosoever is carrying Thor’s fingerprints’ is, I think, the literal translation.”

At that, Thor, lifts Mjolnir as though it has no heft and spins it around.

“That’s a very interesting theory. I have a simpler one. You’re all not worthy.”

Enter Ultron.

“How could you be worthy?” the stumbling robot intones. “You’re all puppets, tangled in strings.”

And then, the video launches into the previously released trailer for the film, complete with the eerie rendition of “I’ve Got No Strings” from Disney’s “Pinocchio.”

“Age of Ultron” is director Joss Whedon’s hotly anticipated follow-up to 2012’s “The Avengers,” which united Marvel’s disparate superheroes — including Iron Man (Downey), Thor, Captain America, The Hulk (Mark Ruffalo), Black Widow and Hawkeye, in a battle against Tom Hiddleston’s Loki and his swarm of alien invaders. The summer release set box-office records, earning more than $1.5 billion worldwide, and was hailed as witty and worthy of its hype.

“Age of Ultron,” which is due in theaters May 1, will reunite the superheroes as well as Samuel L. Jackson’s Nick Fury and Cobie Smulders’ Agent Maria Hill. Newcomers include James Spader as Ultron, and Elizabeth Olsen and Aaron Taylor-Johnson as twins Scarlet Witch and Quicksilver. Stark’s artificially intelligent butler Jarvis (voiced by Paul Bettany) becomes the Vision.

Here’s the official plot synopsis for the film:

When Tony Stark tries to jump-start a dormant peacekeeping program, things go awry and Earth’s Mightiest Heroes, including Iron Man, Captain America, Thor, The Incredible Hulk, Black Widow and Hawkeye, are put to the ultimate test as the fate of the planet hangs in the balance. As the villainous Ultron emerges, it is up to The Avengers to stop him from enacting his terrible plans, and soon uneasy alliances and unexpected action pave the way for an epic and unique global adventure.

The new clip arrives on the heel’s of Marvel’s Monday announcement of its Phase Three movie lineup, including feature films for “Doctor Strange,” “Captain Marvel,” “Black Panther” and third and fourth “Avengers” installments, among other projects
