‘Avengers: Age of Ultron’ trailer teases Hulkbuster, Quicksilver

Oct. 23, 2014 | 3:30 a.m.

The first trailer for “Avengers: Age of Ultron” is out, revealing Tony Stark’s Hulkbuster armor, mysterious newcomers Quicksilver and Scarlet Witch and, of course, the villainous Ultron.

Marvel released the trailer, which was slated to debut during next week’s “Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.” episode, after it leaked online Wednesday.

“Age of Ultron” is director Joss Whedon’s hotly anticipated follow-up to 2012’s “The Avengers,” which united Marvel’s disparate superheroes, including Iron Man (Robert Downey Jr.), Thor (Chris Hemsworth), Captain America (Chris Evans), The Hulk (Mark Ruffalo), Black Widow (Scarlett Johansson) and Hawkeye (Jeremy Renner), in a battle against Tom Hiddleston’s Loki and his swarm of alien invaders. The summer blockbuster set box-office records, earning more than $1.5 billion worldwide, and was hailed as witty and worthy of its hype.

“Age of Ultron,” which is due in theaters May 1, will reunite the superheroes as well as Samuel L. Jackson’s Nick Fury and Cobie Smulders’ Agent Maria Hill. Newcomers include James Spader as Ultron, and Elizabeth Olsen and Aaron Taylor-Johnson as twins Scarlet Witch and Quicksilver. Stark’s artificially intelligent butler Jarvis (voiced by Paul Bettany) becomes the Vision.

Here’s the official plot synopsis for the film:

When Tony Stark tries to jump-start a dormant peacekeeping program, things go awry and Earth’s Mightiest Heroes, including Iron Man, Captain America, Thor, The Incredible Hulk, Black Widow and Hawkeye, are put to the ultimate test as the fate of the planet hangs in the balance. As the villainous Ultron emerges, it is up to The Avengers to stop him from enacting his terrible plans, and soon uneasy alliances and unexpected action pave the way for an epic and unique global adventure.

The trailer begins with Spader’s “terrifying technological villain hellbent on human extinction,” as Marvel describes him, confronting the Avengers.

“I’m gonna show you something beautiful — everyone screaming for mercy,” he says before crushing what appears to be a damaged Stark Industries suit. “You want to protect the world, but you don’t want it to change. You’re all puppets, tangled in strings.”

The action unfolds while a small voice sings the world’s creepiest version of the song “I’ve Got No Strings” from Disney’s “Pinocchio.” The new Hulkbuster suit faces off against its namesake; Thor grabs Tony Stark by the throat; Hawkeye dodges bullets as he sprints through snowy woods; evil androids scale fortress walls; a motorcycle-riding Black Widow drops from a low-flying jet; Quicksilver zips past Captain America; and Scarlet Witch casts some red magic.

A series of ominous images, including Thor’s dropped hammer and Cap’s broken shield, hint that the heroes will be divided and outgunned.

“It’s the end,” Stark says in the trailer. “The end of the path I started us on.”

“Nothing lasts forever,” Black Widow responds.

Several scenes remain mysterious, including a row of ballerinas and an appearance by actor Andy Serkis as an unknown character.

    kick ass preview

  2. Dumpster says:

For a major curious/Interesting moment is the shot of Scar-Jo's Black Widow character doing the touch-hands thing with what appears to be the Hulk

  3. marvelite says:

The row of ballerinas is actually a nod to the Black Widow's "past". In the comics her memory of being a ballerina was implanted within her mind and was never real.
