Filmmaker Zack Snyder got the Internet buzzing Tuesday with a reveal of Ben Affleck wearing the new Batsuit he’ll sport in the director’s upcoming sequel to “Man of Steel,” and fans were quick to weigh in on this first glimpse of the latest incarnation of the Dark Knight.

Many have pointed out that the suit seems influenced by Frank Miller’s take on the Dark Knight from the legendary graphic novels “The Dark Knight Returns” and “The Dark Knight Strikes Again” — which is fitting, as Snyder has said that Miller’s take on Batman will inform the film, due for release May 6, 2016.

Some, though, criticized the noticeable interlacing veins that cover the suit as an ill-conceived touch.

Even in its earliest stages, the upcoming movie, which brings together a triumvirate of DC heroes and sets the stage for a future “Justice League” film that Snyder will direct, has been the subject of strong commentary in the fan community. Many openly criticized the director’s casting choices — including Affleck as Batman, actress Gal Godot as Wonder Woman and “Social Network” star Jesse Eisenberg as Superman’s traditionally burly, bald and middle-aged arch nemesis Lex Luthor.

Snyder, however, has remained undaunted by any backlash. In an interview with Hero Complex earlier this year, he spoke about his excitement for the new Batsuit and the project in general.

“You know, Superman and Batman in the movies have never existed in the same frame together. So it’s an interesting historical thing,” he said. “We were just testing the suits, right? The new Batsuit and the Superman suit. It wasn’t even with the actors, right? It was just to see ‘em. I was standing there, they were standing next to each other. And I was like, “Guys, someone take a picture! This has never happened before.” We slightly dork out. Like, “Are you kidding me?!”

Judging by the response on Twitter today, Snyder may be winning over some early naysayers to his cause.

The new Batsuit is awesome!!!it looks like Frank Miller’s Dark knight Returns Batman. I think Ben Affleck is going to be a great Batman!

The batsuit is teriffic. Although it looks like Affleck may have to make the whole body turn to look thing, something tells me that the designers of this suit may have figured out a way so he can turn his head.
It looks like the cowl's neck area is made differently than the way it looks in Batman Begins. I think Snyder realized this and got the designers to experiment and come up with a solution, possibly discovering a blend of materials to allow Affleck to turn his head. I'm sure that in time we may find out how.

Yes, hopefully they made the suit–or at least the neck area–out of actual fabric instead of some sort of rubbery latex material.

Blowing the photo up, it looks like those "veins" may just be battle scars (dents, tears, cracks) in the armor and material of the suit. And I like the new Batmobile… looks like the bastard child of Michael Keaton's car and Christian Bale's Tumbler.

    Batfleck is sad

  5. Dan says:

Looks like they forgot to bulk up his legs like they did the top, HAHA, pencil legs Batman.

The new Batman costume looks good. But its a dark grainy picture. And in black and white. Would it really kill Warner Bros to release a color photo? But then of course that’s part of the plan, to tease the public with a cascade (however slowly) of releases until the movie debuts in 2016. But it takes a lot more than just a suit to build a great movie and on that score Affleck is decidedly better behind the camera than in front of it.

  7. hung says:

piss poor how can anyone like the suit or the actor lmao..he dont blend into the dark with that suit and its clear its a party city suit so i hope superman is there to cover any gunfire he may get into lamo

  8. DC maniac says:

The batmobile is awsome but the bat ears can be abit longer. I know in the comics in short and stuby but they didnt take in the account for the ratio of Bens head other then that it looks cool
