In case the ubiquitous TV spots, billboards and bus ads promoting the film haven’t given it away, the key special effect in “Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides” is Johnny Depp’s mischievous face.
“Johnny is enormously popular. He’s the center of the franchise. He is the franchise,” producer Jerry Bruckheimer said about what Depp’s Capt. Jack Sparrow means to the $2.68-billion, swashbuckling series.
If the fourth film, which is directed by Rob Marshall and surrounds a quest for the Fountain of Youth, is as successful as the first three, Bruckheimer said he’ll push ahead on a fifth. But Depp, whom costar Ian McShane said is “paid more than the national debt of most countries,” has a full dance card: He recently signed onto a reboot of “The Thin Man” with Marshall, is making “Dark Shadows” with Tim Burton and plans to play Tonto in Gore Verbinski’s “The Lone Ranger.”
If Depp says he’s ready to hang up Captain Jack’s dreadlocks and move on from the franchise, would Bruckheimer make “Pirates 5″ with anyone else? In a word, “No.”
“We’re working out a script,” Bruckheimer said of the status of a fifth film. “Hopefully, if this one does well, [Depp] will want to come back and play the character again. But it’s gonna depend on the screenplay. It always does. He’s maniacal about not wanting to disappoint his audience.”
Audiences will get to cast their vote for Captain Jack at the box office when “Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides” opens May 20.

No wonder Johnny Depp is my favorite actor; "He’s maniacal about not wanting to disappoint his audience." In my opinion, this is what makes an actor good. There are too many actors/actresses who do not care about the quality of their films, as long as they earn money on it. He did not disappoint in POTC 4: On Stranger Tides either! All creds to mr. Depp!

pirates of the caribbean has been the best choice for johnny depp,it was pirates of the caribbean that got him even more notice.i heard rumors after seeing the 3rd 1 that there should b 3 more,now 2 more so hopefully johnny depp will b willing 2 do a 5th & 6th pirates of the caribbean

If they dare plow with Jack Sparrow but without Johnny Depp so help me I will shun everything. There is no other. But I don't think Disney would be so stupid. I also trust Johnny's opinions about the script and if he gives it the okay, then I will see it.

Through that ones mind the possibilities are endless and a childish imagination will always be in a portion of their heart. That's what the Pirates of the Caribbean Series has made me feel. To make another should not be judged by what critics think, but what people think. Opening Night for POTC 4 made over $36 million, do people realize how much money that is??? I am a fan of the Pirates Series, so are millions of people all over the world. Do a 5th Movie please
POTC without depp, lol. Thats not an option and they know it. They need to do 3 more but screw the storyline, just make a new plot, potc its worth what its worth because of how much ppl love depp and his weird sense of humor that u don't see anywhere else. Make something up, isle of the cyclops or somethn
On Stranger Tides was a wild ride! Johnny Depp deserves an oscar. Captain Jack Sparrow just gets better. Can't wait to see the next one!
