From coupon salesman to guardian of the galaxy.  Not bad.

Before “Guardians of the Galaxy” was a twinkle in Chris Pratt’s eye, he was busy becoming a square-jawed heartthrob of the WB.   And before that,  as he told Conan O’Brien in a December interview, he was a coupon salesman.

But now, as the Los Angeles Times reports, Pratt has scored the lead role of Peter Quill in Marvel’s “Guardians of the Galaxy.”

Can he handle the superhero big leagues?

Pratt has grown up since he was “Bright” Abbott on WB’s “Everwood,”  He’s proven himself as a comedian (“Parks and Recreation”) as well as a dramatic actor (“Zero Dark Thirty”).  He also married actress Anna Faris in 2009. Together the couple have a baby, Jack, born in August.

For his role as a Navy SEAL in the Oscar-nominated “Zero,” the actor — who told O’Brien that his physique tends toward the “soft” side — hit the gym.  (See video below)

At the very least, we know Pratt can get ripped, and that’s an essential attribute for anyone applying for a job as an intergalactic superhero.
