‘Crimson Peak’ trailer: New love meets an old house in Del Toro horror film

The new trailer for Guillermo del Toro’s “Crimson Peak” has been released and it comes with its own warning: Beware of Crimson Peak.

Mia Wasikowska, Tom Hiddleston, Jessica Chastain and Charlie Hunnam star in the gothic horror romance, along with a very old house located atop a mountain of blood-red clay.

“Ghosts are real,” says Edith Cushing (Wasikowska) as the trailer opens. “That much I know. I’ve seen them all my life.”

As the trailer unfolds, we see Edith courted by a handsome stranger, Thomas Sharpe. Edith marries Thomas and moves into the large mansion he shares with his not-so-approving sister (played by Chastain). Unfortunately, it seems there is more to the house than the siblings have shared with Edith prior to her joining the family.

“A house as old as this one becomes, in time, a living thing” says Thomas. “It starts holding onto things … keeping them alive when they shouldn’t be.”

You can see what these “things” are in the trailer below.

Del Toro, the mind behind “Pan’s Labyrinth,” “The Strain,” and “Pacific Rim,” wrote “Crimson Peak” with Matthew Robbins.

In a previous interview with Hero Complex, Del Toro described “Crimson Peak” as “a love story, but that’s not all there is.”

“I wanted to show how, especially for a girl, marriage is the beginning of noticing that the guy is not what you think he is,” Del Toro said. “Then digging deeper and realizing that you have to stand on your own in a way.”

“Crimson Peak” is set for an Oct. 16 release.
