The newest trailer for “The Dark Knight Rises” reveals the scale of the film – collapsing bridges, street riots, and that familar football-field calamity — but the most intriguing moments belong to franchise newcomers Anne Hathaway, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Marion Cotillard and the baneful Tom Hardy.
Although a portion of the trailer, which runs 2 minutes and 19 seconds, is comprised of footage from the six-minute preview released in December, it’s the most that tight-lipped co-writer and director Christopher Nolan has revealed about the third and final installment in his epic Batman trilogy, which began with “Batman Begins” in 2005 and continued with 2008′s “The Dark Knight,” winning two Oscars.
The trailer opens with Selina Kyle’s voice over a soft, eerie piano, telling Bruce Wayne (Christian Bale), “There’s a storm coming.” When he remarks that she seems as if she is looking forward to it, Hathaway seems to channel breathy Marilyn Monroe or Hedy Lamarr as she murmurs back, “I’m adaptable.”
The trailer also shows a beleaguered Gotham in the clutches of chaos, with exploding bridges, sidewalk mobs, and wide-eyed children watching the bedlam from behind windows. Meanwhile, a battered Bruce Wayne is held captive by masked terrorist Bane (Hardy), who calls himself “Gotham’s reckoning” and promises Wayne a punishment “more severe” than death.
The action ramps up, giving fans a glimpse of Hathaway– in full kitty gear — roundhouse-kicking a baddie, a flying vehicle that’s been added to the Bat-fleet, and a steamy kiss between Wayne and Miranda Tate, the Cotillard character who represents a new mysterious figure in the big picture of Nolan’s unfolding mythology. Also memorable is a fleeting scene between John Blake (Gordon-Levitt) and a child who chalks Batman’s symbol on the pavement.
The film, which hits theaters July 20, is expected to challenge box office records. Check out the trailer above and let us know what you think in the comments.

Oh, my Lord. That was truly incredible. Let's savor this moment — the last trailer for a Nolan bat-film. How in God's name are we supposed to wait for July?!?
I need more action in the trailer
Agreed!
AMAZING!!!!!!!!!!!
To be honest I was a bit worried if TDKR could top TDK because that movie had the best Joker portrayal out of any Batman media and actually felt like the ultimate battle for Gotham to me. This movie though feels like it has the potential to deliver. Though Bane appears scaled down compared to a past movie portrayal he also looks more menacing and intelligent too and I think Tom Hardy just may be able to pull off the same quality acting Heath Ledger did with the Joker in creating an epic battle that would make the movie equal or superior to The Dark Knight.
I have sincerely been unable to sleep. I've watched the trailer maybe 10 times now. I'm just so excited to see how this story ends.
Nolan's secrecy is evident when Bruce Wayne spirals around another inmates cuffs, discretely withholding his identity.
That's actually Selina Kyle doing the spin, she was seen in the same jumpsuit in the prologue sitting in the back of a cop car, discretion all around!
I love Dark Knight and Christian Bale. I can't stand Anne Hathaway, that woman is too big boned and just not right for this movie or the role.
Wrong. Anne Hathaway is perfect for this catwoman role. She is awesome in this trailer. Your wrong woman!
She's "big boned"?
You're kidding right?
nolan doing it right, a trailer shouldn't spoil the movie; it should tease you and tease me it did!!
action, meaty plot, character development, depth and a story worth listening to. thank you mr nolan for showing us that comic book characters can have proper movies!!
OMG!! I can't wait. This what seperates nolan from the Michael Bay's of the world.
Yawn. It's hard to get excited for another Bale Batman channeling some sort of metal-punk rock band vocals and Bane wearing an apnea mask and John Denver jacket, sounding like Magneto or Gandalf.
Chris Nolan is EPIC! nuff said!
