‘Deadpool’: Ryan Reynolds offers first look at Marvel hero’s mask

Feb. 12, 2015 | 1:21 p.m.

“Deadpool” star Ryan Reynolds gave comics fans a first look at the antihero’s mask and gloves, posting a picture of a prototype on Twitter.

“Sepia tone disguises the fact the mask is ballerina pink. It’s early. 365 sleeps early,” Reynolds wrote in the Tweet, referring to the film’s release date, slated for Feb. 12, 2016, exactly one year from now.

The film, from 20th Century Fox, is based on the Marvel character Wade Winston Wilson, a mentally unstable mercenary known for his wisecracking dialogue and tendency to break the fourth wall, speaking directly to comic book readers.

Reynolds (“Green Lantern”) played a version of Deadpool in 2009’s “X-Men Origins: Wolverine” and has long been expected to headline a film based on Marvel’s Merc with a Mouth. Test footage for the project that leaked last year was met with praise and excitement from fans.

In a 2010 interview with Hero Complex, Reynolds described his affection for the Marvel Comics character, who is nearly impossible to kill.

“With Deadpool, it’s a lot like going to prison for the first day,” Reynolds said. “You got to walk up and hit the biggest guy you see to establish a bit of cred. With Deadpool, early on you have to establish that moral flexibility. There’s a gamble to it — you’re going to lose a few people right at the beginning but you take the gamble and know that eventually you’re going to win them back…”

“Deadpool” is directed by Tim Miller, with Simon Kinberg and Lauren Shuler Donner producing.

Yes , yes .. Ryan is really a consummate actor, really appreciated by the female audience. Sometimes men can easily be envious of the success of a representative of their own, especially if he has an enviable physique, with an immense acting talent, to which we add his wife, who is one of the most beautiful women in the world.

Actually, Ryan is a fav of mine as a male movie goer.. he is good looking, smart, funny, and a good actor with depth. I am a straight guy.. I don't get intimidated by his success or his looks, I am a hottie myself, so I just look to his style and dress as inspiration. I am not a fan however of Ben Affleck, and his buddy Matt Damon tho, not because of their looks more of their attitudes, and they seem to come off fake and pretentious, but that is just me..

      • John says:

Speaking about "fake and pretentious," just add shallow and aloof and we've got YOU. How would you like to be judged by people you don't know and have never met, based on the way you "come off"? You wouldn't, Admiral Adama, you wouldn't.
