It’s official — Ryan Reynolds will star in Fox’s upcoming “Deadpool.”

The “Green Lantern” actor had long been tipped to play Marvel’s Merc with a Mouth, but Fox confirmed Reynolds’ casting Thursday afternoon.

Tim Miller will direct the film, which Simon Kinberg and Lauren Shuler Donner will produce.

Reynolds first played the wise-cracking antihero in “X-Men: Origins — Wolverine.”

In a 2010 interview with Hero Complex, Reynolds described his affection for the Marvel Comics character, who is both unstable and nearly impossible to kill.

“With Deadpool, it’s a lot like going to prison for the first day,” Reynolds said. “You got to walk up and hit the biggest guy you see to establish a bit of cred. With Deadpool, early on you have to establish that moral flexibility. There’s a gamble to it — you’re going to lose a few people right at the beginning but you take the gamble and know that eventually you’re going to win them back…”

“Deadpool” is officially set to open in theaters on Feb. 12, 2016.
