There’s some dystopian romance happening in a new clip from next year’s sci-fi action film “Divergent,” based on the popular young adult book trilogy by Veronica Roth.

The film, set for release March 21, takes place in a future Chicago in which teenagers are sorted into five factions based on their virtues. At the heart of the story is adolescent heroine Beatrice “Tris” Prior, played by rising star Shailene Woodley (“The Descendants,” “The Fault in Our Stars”). Tris is born into Abnegation (the faction that values selflessness), but her personality test reveals she is divergent, or has an aptitude for multiple factions — something that is not allowed in the rigidly divided society.

She hides her divergence and decides to join Dauntless, the faction based on bravery. Her choice lands her among a group of tattooed warriors, including love interest “Four” (Theo James), and sees her leaping on and off trains, ziplining, learning hand-to-hand combat, shooting and knife-throwing and facing off against other kids as part of a brutal initiation into the faction.

In the new clip released Thursday, there’s not much in the way of fighting, but rather an intimate moment between Tris and Four. She sits quietly with him, before getting a look at the tattoo covering his back, which pays homage to all five factions.

“I don’t want to be just one thing,” he tells her. “I can’t be. I want to be brave, and I want to be selfless, intelligent and honest and kind.”

Directed by Neil Burger, “Divergent” also stars Ashley Judd, Zoe Kravitz, Jai Courtney, Ray Stevenson and Miles Teller, among others.
