The theatrical opening of “Ender’s Game” is less than two weeks away, but in the meantime fans of the sci-fi story can check out a new video and poster for the film.
“Ender’s Game” is an adaptation of the award-winning 1985 novel by Orson Scott Card about Ender Wiggin (Asa Butterfield), a young genius recruited and groomed by a global military organization to help fend off an alien threat.
The three-minute video, released Friday, features a behind-the-scenes look at the extensive digital effects required to create Ender’s world, including alien landscapes, space warfare and the Zero G battle room where Ender and his classmates learn to navigate a weightless environment.
“We really wanted the audience to feel the photographic reality of battle fleets and alien planets,” director Gavin Hood said in the video. “When you’re making a movie you want two things. You want great characters and a great story, and you want fantastic, big visuals, especially in a movie of this size.”
Meanwhile, Alamo Drafthouse’s collectible art division Mondo spotlights Ender and his Battle School comrades in a new poster for the film.
The poster, by Mondo artist Martin Ansin, features Butterfield’s Ender wearing his Zero G battle room gear, as well as costars Harrison Ford as Col. Hyrum Graff, Hailee Steinfeld as Petra Arkanian, Ben Kingsley as Mazer Rackham and Viola Davis as Maj. Gwen Anderson.
The poster features shades of iron gray with bright red highlights. Ansin also created a variant in sepia tones. Beginning Oct. 24, limited-edition screenprints will be available on Mondo’s site to purchase for $50 for the original and $75 for the variant.
“Ender’s Game” opens in theaters on Oct. 31.
