Link“Guardians of the Galaxy” is ramping up the roll-out for its big-screen debut, which is just a little over a month away.
Fresh off this week’s release of four character posters from the Marvel cosmic adventure film, a new international trailer is out.
Like the domestic trailer, the clip does a good job of setting the stakes for the motley crew. As Glenn Close — playing intergalactic police chief Nova-Prime — puts it, “the fate of 12 billion people are in the hands of a thief, two thugs, a murderer and a maniac.”
The international trailer also features dialogue from Zoe Saldana’s green alien assassin Gamora, who asks Chris Pratt’s roguish antihero Peter Quill, “Why would you risk your life for this?”
Check it out below.
Due to open in theaters Aug. 1, “Guardians” follows Quill, who’s on the run from a villain known as Ronan the Accuser (Lee Pace) after coming into possession of a mysterious orb. Before long, Quill is allied with a rogues gallery that, in addition to Gamora, includes a gun-toting creature named Rocket Raccoon, voiced by Bradley Cooper; Bautista’s vengeful Drax the Destroyer; and the tree-like humanoid Groot, voiced by Vin Diesel.
In addition to the five guardians who make up the squad of misfits, the “Guardians of the Galaxy” cast also features Michael Rooker as Yondu, Djimon Hounsou as Korath, Benicio del Toro as the Collector, Karen Gillan as the sadistic villain Nebula, John C. Reilly as Rhomann Dey, and the recently announced Josh Brolin as Thanos, the death-loving supervillain first glimpsed in the credit sequence of Joss Whedon’s 2012 blockbuster “The Avengers.”
The first team bearing the name debuted in “Marvel Super-Heroes” No. 18 in 1969, and had an ongoing series in the early 1990s, but the film’s lineup is rooted in a 2008 “Guardians of the Galaxy” series written by Dan Abnett and Andy Lanning. For the new movie, director and co-writer James Gunn took a fresh approach to the characters and the mythology, fashioning a story that, like the other Marvel films, stands on its own but also connects to the studio’s other franchises, including “The Avengers.”

The international trailer sure is blah and generic (and overly sincere) compared with the snarky ones for domestic consumption. Maybe they don't think hipster irony travels well? At least there was a glimmer of humor at the end.
Hells yes I'm psyched. This movie has come out of left field to say the least in terms of what the movie-going audience expected from Marvel Studios, not to mention what even the hard-core fans could've expected from the MCU. If you had told me 5 years ago I'd be watching a GotG movie based on the beloved Rocket & Groot-era stories, I'd have said you were crazy… not to mention ANY movie based on the Guardians of the Galaxy mythology at all. Throw in the fact that it features Yondu, a member of the original Guardians team, & I'm a pig in excrement.
Now here's hoping it doesn't bomb.
No one's expecting 1 Billion, but $500 Million over 2-3 months would be nice. Mostly just to give Marvel the confidence in their deeper catalog of obscure characters to go all out & get some of the weirder concepts out there for public consumption. *crosses fingers*
