‘Guardians of the Galaxy’ videos: Meet Groot, Rocket and the team

Marvel is spotlighting each of the oddball heroes from “Guardians of the Galaxy” in a newly released series of short videos promoting the upcoming space adventure movie.

The film, due in theaters Aug. 1, is directed by James Gunn (“Super”) and based on the Marvel comic of the same name. Chris Pratt stars as the roguish antihero Peter Quill, a.k.a. Star-Lord, who steals a mysterious orb and consequently finds himself on the run from powerful villain Ronan (Lee Pace), whose evil plans threaten the universe. Quill is forced to team up with a ragtag squad of alien misfits to battle the cosmic threat.

It’s a quirky concept (one of the characters is a furry creature named Rocket Raccoon, voiced by Bradley Cooper), and the film’s first trailer, released Tuesday, suggests the movie boasts its fair share of snark and humor in addition to explosions and space battles.

On the heels of the trailer, Marvel has released five video clips, featuring Star-Lord, Rocket, Gamora (Zoe Saldana), Drax (Dave Bautista) and Groot (voiced by Vin Diesel). Check out the clips in the videos below.

In addition to the five guardians, the cast also includes “Doctor Who” star Karen Gillan as Nebula, Michael Rooker as Yondu, Djimon Hounsou as Korath, Benicio del Toro as the Collector, Glenn Close as Nova Prime Rael and John C. Reilly as Rhomann Dey.

Do you think the cast members do the comic book characters justice? Let us know in the comments.
