YEAR 1: Hagrid took Harry to Diagon Alley to buy school supplies for Hogwarts -- spellbooks, an owl, and, of course, a wand. Here, Ollivander, played by John Hurt, helps Harry find his wand, which is 11 inches and made of holly with a phoenix feather core. "It is curious that you should be destined for this wand when its brother gave you that scar," Ollivander tells Harry. "The wand chooses the wizard, Mr. Potter. It's not always clear why.
