The end is here — but we’re not done yet.
No one has covered the eighth and final “Harry Potter” the way we have here at Hero Complex, but we’re not going to slow down now that the film has reached theaters. The movie is on its way to a massive opening weekend and the reviews are overwhelmingly positive as well. One of the best takes is by our very own Kenneth Turan, the senior film critic for the Los Angeles Times. Here’s an excerpt from his review:
The Harry Potter films, like the boy wizard himself, have had their creative ups and downs, so it’s especially satisfying that this final film, ungainly title and all, has been worth the wait. Though no expense has been spared in its production, it succeeds because it brings us back to the combination of magic, adventure and emotion that created the books’ popularity in the first place.
It also succeeds because the franchise has stuck to its conservative creative guns and seen them pay off. With occasional exceptions like Alfonso Cuarón’s ”Prisoner of Azkaban” adventure, the Potter films have rarely been daring, valuing superb craftsmanship and care over cutting-edge audacity. Now that we’ve come to the much-anticipated finale, that expert husbanding of a once-in-a-lifetime franchise has had a cumulative effect that is not to be denied.

Wow that reviewer must not have been a good follower of the book. The changes that were made and items that were left out left me thinking how anticlimactic it was. I anticipated a huge war at the end which did happen, but with the way the ending was changed as well as parts of the storyline it.. I hate to admit it but I could have waited for this conclusion on DVD rather than the cinema. Don't get me wrong the effects were amazing and for those who have never read the books, I am sure they would enjoy the movie completely, however as someone who has read all the books I was extremely disappointed in the changes that were made and how they seemed to have rushed through the whole thing.
