“Independence Day’s” co-writers — director Roland Emmerich and producer Dean Devlin – are ready to make at least one sequel to the 1996 alien invasion blockbuster, and maybe more.

But at an appearance at the fourth annual Hero Complex Film Festival, the longtime collaborators, along with the film’s star Jeff Goldblum and the movie’s visual effects wizard Volker Engel, talked not only about the future of the franchise, but also took time to reflect on their favorite memories of making the original film.

Emmerich chuckled while recalling the meeting he had with an irate Robert Loggia, who played the film’s Gen. William Grey. The actor had become furious over the fact that he was appearing in a spoof and no one had told him; he wasn’t, of course. A simple miscommunication was responsible for the confusion.

Devlin remembered the first test screening that was held for the movie in Las Vegas, where “Independence Day” opened to a rapturous reception — and then the film broke.

To hear Emmerich and Devlin’s stories in their own words, and to learn Engel and Goldblum’s favorite memories, watch the video below.

The Hero Complex Film Festival kicked off May 10 at the Chinese 6 Theatres with a John Carpenter double feature and feisty Q&A. Saturday afternoon brought a screening of “The Mist” and a discussion of that film’s shocking ending with writer-director Frank Darabont and surprise guest Thomas Jane.

Saturday night belonged to Guillermo del Toro, who shared an exclusive preview of his upcoming “Pacific Rim” and gave lively responses to questions between showings of “The Devil’s Backbone” and “Pan’s Labyrinth.”

The event closed with a 20th anniversary salute to “The X-Files” with the show’s creator  Chris Carter  taking the stage with surprise guests, writers Glen Morgan and Darin Morgan.
