The new trailer for Christopher Nolan’s “Interstellar” has debuted, offering a lyrical preview of the filmmaker’s anticipated 2014 release.
The clip shows landmark images related to space exploration as the film’s star, Matthew McConaughey, in voiceover, ponders the human thirst for innovation that made such technological advances possible, and wonders openly whether mankind has abandoned its enthusiasm for dreaming.
“We’ve always defined ourselves by the ability to overcome the impossible,” the actor says as the trailer opens. “and we count these moments, these moments when we dared to aim higher, to break barriers, to reach for the stars, to make the unknown known — we count these moments as our proudest achievements.”
“But,” he adds, “we lost all that. Perhaps we have just forgotten that we are still pioneers.”
The end of the clip sees McConaughey drive away from a desolate farmhouse in a battered pickup truck, and two people clasp hands as a rocket soars into the sky.
Set for release Nov. 7, 2014, “Interstellar” also features an accomplished cast of actors, including Jessica Chastain and Casey Affleck, and previous Nolan collaborators Anne Hathaway and Michael Caine.
It’s the first film from Nolan since he completed his acclaimed Gotham City trilogy of Batman films with 2012’s “The Dark Knight Rises.”
