Ladies and gentlemen, meet your Aquaman. Jason Momoa is set to suit up as the Atlantean king in Warner Bros.’ superhero movie “Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice,” according to multiple reports. HitFix was first with the news.
No official announcement has been made; so far the studio and Momoa’s reps have been mum.
Momoa, a swarthy hunk who played the Dothraki warlord Khal Drogo on HBO’s “Game of Thrones” and the title role in 2011’s “Conan the Barbarian,” has been rumored to be circling “Batman v. Superman” for months but has largely disavowed any involvement.
In January, he told MTV News, “I get it all the time. It’s just a rumor. I swear.” He added, “Man to man. You can punch me in the face [if I’m lying].”
The 34-year-old actor would bring a different look to Aquaman, who in the comics is a blond dude known to sport green tights. That said, a new twist on the character would be in keeping with director Zack Snyder’s m.o. on “Batman v. Superman,” which also stars Jesse Eisenberg as a much younger Lex Luthor than moviegoers are used to seeing.
Momoa does have ocean experience as well, having starred in TV’s “Baywatch.”
According to HitFix, Momoa will not have a major role in the “Man of Steel” sequel but will make an appearance, which will set him up to return in Snyder’s follow-up “Justice League” movie.
“Batman v. Superman” also stars Henry Cavill as Superman, Ben Affleck as Batman and Gal Gadot as Wonder Woman. It is set for release May 6, 2016.
