Joss Whedon: Romney win key to zombie apocalypse

Oct. 29, 2012 | 12:42 p.m.

Maybe it’s time Joss Whedon directed an episode of “The Walking Dead.”

“The Avengers” writer-director opted to weigh in with some thoughts on the upcoming presidential election, offering a sharp-tongued video “endorsement” of Republican nominee Mitt Romney — provided voters are hoping to hasten the zombie apocalypse.

Calmly talking to the camera, Whedon identifies himself as a liberal before going on to state that it’s a very different world than it was four years ago when Barack Obama was elected. “Romney’s ready to make the deep rollbacks in healthcare, education, social services, reproductive rights that will guarantee poverty, unemployment, over-population, disease, rioting — all crucial elements in creating a nightmare zombie wasteland,” Whedon says.

In this new future, the filmmaker advises: “Anyone who can run, fight, make explosives out of household objects or especially do Parkour of any kind, you’ll want to stick with them.”

And, of course, make sure you’re stocked up on canned goods.

I hope Romney wins and avenges every dumbed down thing you said in this clip. You just want to keep the poor paying to see your movies so that you can sit on your money and do nothing for the the poor or anyone else for that matter. Well, except to appease the ill-educated… or the ones who are already staying home…. using the government to fund their artistic hobbies. I will pray that God will lift the delusion you have been given over to.
God help us as you and so many like you ignite this kind of hate generated by lies.

wow. the levels of intolerance continue to escalate. this is simply not the same america. i dont understand these extreme slants, both left and right. . all any of us can do is do our best to get the "facts" and form our individual opinions. the fight is out there, pal…not with your fellow americans. there will always be differences of opinion and even of our humor…but these sorts of responses/reactions to those with whom differ is truly disturbing. just calm the heck down and vote, man. sheesh!

    • nph says:

You do know zombies aren't a real thing, right?

    • Bri says:

You might want to consider that this is a satiracle.

    • Max Power says:

Wow, are those real tears, texastoast? I guarantee you that Romney's capital gains tax loophole nets him more than the gov't hands out to mendicant hippies to fund their artistic hobbies. Most gov't arts spending goes to symphonies and museums, high-falutin' hobbies for the rich.

If there was a god, he'd want you to read a book once in a while. And maybe go out and rent a sense of humor.

    • John W. says:

Why are the most unreasonably angry, humorless and judgmental people zealot Republicans? Why do people like you assume that all Dems are unemployed and living off the government's largesse? If anything, you and your kind should be on your knees begging for forgiveness for getting us into this near-apocalyptic financial situation in the first place (see previous administration). It's as if you conservatives suffer from an amnesia that started in 2000 and ended in 2008. You and your kind ARE the zombie apocalypse, except that it's us rational people who are screaming "Brains!" — wishing you'd grow some for your own consumption.

      • Nora says:

You have been programmed to believe what they want you to, parrot what they tell your to, and to vote against your own best interest. Our government is irrevocably corrupt on both sides of the aisle, Democrats are no better. It's past time to drive them all out and start over with non-lawyer, non-CEO, non-Politician representatives and president.

      • Nora says:

By the way, Romney is not at all what he claims to be (neither is Obama obviously, but we're not talking about him). Look up his record in MA, as governor. He nearly bankrupted the state – believe me, I live there and I voted for him back then. NEVER AGAIN! We learned the hard way about his silver tongue and lies. He will GUT everything you have left that you hold dear and bankrupt the country. That's what he does, that's his MO. You vote for him at your own peril and folly. I hope we do not all pay for your ignorance and the ignorance of those like you.
This is NOT an endoresement for nObama. You couldn't pay me enough to vote for him again either. Write in a candidate of your choice. Even Goofy would do better than either of them.

      • Nora says:

Darn, Sorry John, my apologies. These responses were not directed at you, you seem smart and reasoning. All my replies were meant for Texastone. I didn't expect the site to scroll me down and was posting too fast to notice. My bad, now I know to pay better attention while here.

    • Nakoma says:

Considering Whedon is a man that donates to charity I don't see how he doesn't help but whatever. Don't hate because you don't have his money nor his beliefs. When a presidential candidates own state isn't backing him then maybe you should check on everything he really did. I'm not excited about either leading candidate but that is my own opinion and everyone is entitled to one. It's sad you don't appreciate his work but there is no reason to show the hatred you are displaying. True "Christians" don't insult in this fashion but instead attempt to persuade others to see your point of view in a non-confrontational manner and with respect. We should know by now that simply insulting people doesn't work out in the end. If you feel he is being immature then call him out on it, he's a celebrity using his voice the way others are doing in a fashion that his fans would appreciate, I'm sorry you don't agree with the humor of the piece.

Everyone, do your last minute research and decide on your own whom you wish to represent our country and head the still strong America into a future we can be proud of. Also, stock up! ;)

      • Nora says:

        W00t! Right on. =)
That said, Mittens was never from MA, it is not his state nor has it ever been. His state is Michigan, he was born and raised there. He has a house here, (one of many, when so many families lost theirs in the last 6 years), spends just enough time here in the summer to have to pay MA taxes on top of his taxes in other states, (very easy to do, MA is very strict on time spent living here and you don't have to be here very long to qualify), so he used that to his advantage to run for Governor. He was even called out on it and investigated by the state, but when it looked like he would be denied he hired excellent and morally ambiguous attorneys and finally passed. What should be asked is why he never ran for his OWN state Governorship rather than the trouble he went though to run for MA Governor. Could it be because he wouldn't stand a snowball's chance of winning in his own state because he already had a bad reputation? Hmmmmm…

    • Nora says:

Why are you so nieve as to think that the same economic policies of the last 30 years, which caused only debt, repeated recession, the largest gap between the rich and the poor since the 1800's, and which has nearly wiped out the middle class while causing the worst economic collapse since the Great Depression – some say worse than even that – Why do you think such economic policies that have been PROVEN over years of having failed, and failed in a fairly Epic manner, would possibly suddenly start working now?
How can you be so blind and brainwashed by the republicans to think there will be any change after 30 years of the same? They say the definition of Insanity is to keep doing the same thing over and over, but to expect a different result each time. By definition, those Republican voters that toe the party economic line are thus insane – and mind you, I say the same of those Democrats that do the same, I'm not just picking on you.

    • zack says:

yes, the more well reasoned argument here is to just do whatever god says.

I've got news for you Hollywood liberal # one million one, poverty, unemployment, over-population, disease, and rioting are already guaranteed. Just look at Greece, Spain, soon Italy, France, and the rest of Europe and tell me honestly we aren't headed in the same direction.

    • Atomic Kommie Comics says:

We aren't headed in the same direction…unless Romney is elected.

    • Huh says:

You are comparing apples to oranges. If you want a view of what true attempts at "globalization" are, look no further than the countries that you referenced.

You might also want to check someone's managerial history at a company named Bain and his economic policies during those times…

  4. Luke says:

“Anyone who can run, fight, make explosives out of household objects or especially do Parkour of any kind, you’ll want to stick with them.” LOL! None of this applies to liberals, who depend on the government for their very existence and spend the vast majority of their time trying to take away law abiding citizens' means of self defense. In fact, if you really think about it, your average garden varitey libdrone more closely resembles a zombie than anyone else, the only exception is that they reek of pot instead of decay, and instead of moaning for brains, they whine for communism.

    • Ronnie says:

None of this applies to conservatives, who would simply pay for someone else to do their dirty work for them.

    • Nora says:

Funny, I would say the same of conservatives – most of whom are sponging off of unemployment and welfare rather than training for a new job in a new field where there now are jobs, while praying to their imaginary deity to please bring back the old, defunct ones so they can get back to their old way of life.

Newsflash: The world changes and evolves. Those who survive must change with it. Those stuck in the past become obsolete and pass by the wayside, left behind like the old ideas and failed policies they cling to.

    • Nora says:

Also, while I'm not entirely liberal, I do agree with some liberal ideas. I learned how to survive in the wild as a kid – my dad and uncle taught me. I'm against gun control and loss of other freedons, espcially those constitutionally assured. Seems to me it's you neocons looking to stop people getting their civil rights recognized, happily stomping on others' civil rights too, and gleefully helping to pass new laws and "security measures" that limit our freedom and are unconstitutional. Say what you want about liberals, but at least they can think for themselves.

  5. Maxopoly says:

Love Joss. I guess the only positive part a Romney win wouls be a zombie apocalypse taking out so many of the stupid people in humanity.

  6. precisiontimepiece says:

I love Hollywood but I would have to caution anyone who might be swayed by this kind of propaganda. The reality is that cities all around los Angeles are in fiscal crisis. Some cities have literally gone bankrupt. Southern California is going to need a bailout and Joss Whedon knows it. Obama is the man for the job. Unfortunately it was liberal spending that got the cities surrounding Hollywood into that kind of trouble. They need money to fund their liberal paradise but with the economy faltering there is no where left to turn for funds except the federal government. Arnold already made a trip to D.C. years ago looking for bailout money. Now that everyone in California and Hollywood knows that this brand of fiscal management is a failure, how can they turn around in good conscious like Joss Whedon and try to convince the rest of America to follow suit and run head long into fiscal crisis. Whedon knows that many of the cities in and around los Angeles have gone bankrupt and he knows who's politics are responsible. California has been managed primarily by liberals for several decades. I admit some notorious corrupt republicans are to blame as well, but no one can deny that it was liberal spending that got them into the mess there in. So what is Whedon's end game if he can clearly see the outcome just by looking out his kitchen window to the neighboring city in financial ruin. Whedon knows that for the cities surrounding Hollywood to sustain the level of spending that their already committed to they are going to have to get money from somewhere. Face it the people in southern California need to realize that the social systems are overburdened and don't get the needed revenue because there is a large cash economy that generates no revenue at all. It's the same situation in Mexico, south America, and a big part of south east Asia. Their economies are traditionally cash economies that don't generate revenue for social spending and when you look at their cities you can tell. Their water systems aren't sanitary. There roads are collapsing. Public transportation doesn't exist. Every day the U.S. gets a little bit closer to this end. Democrats can tax more but that doesn't mean that they can get people who work in a cash economy to pay them. The middle class will get stuck with the tab for Obama Care, but a lot of people who will take advantage of it have not and will not contribute to the system that pays for it. Don't say that isn't the case because 5 miles from me is a city of 200,000 people that technically went under a few years ago. Why is that. They pay for tons of social services but they don't generate any revenue. The way I see it if it fails on the city level, it will more than likely fail at the federal level eventually. The rest of the country needs to realize that if the cities and counties in southern California fail that they will have to pick up the tab for it through the federal government. Whedon knows this. He's probably terrified of the prospect and he knows that Obama is definitely going to give a bailout. Certainly I can see why democrats in California are backed into a corner when it comes to voting for Obama, but what about the democrats in every other state. Are democrats in every other state going to go pull a vote for Obama and pick up the tab for a southern California's bailout. If you're in any other state then California you'll never see the benefits of the federal money that will be necessary to pull this off. Whedon knows that. That's reason Whedon cooked up this bs public service announcement to appeal to his loyal fans. I saw his movies. Yea they were great. But he's full of it. Wise up. If your democrat, middle class, and you need this election for whatever reason then you need think about yourself having flip the tab for what I'm talking about. Why should you have to pay for it? Ask yourself why you'll have to pay for it? Its simply because in some corner of the huge nation you live the government is simply overwhelmed by influence of cash economies from around the world. People come here in droves to do business but they don't contribute back to the system they participate. Trying to tax them will never work. Why should middle Americans have to flip the bill for the strain placed by the third world on Americas biggest cities. It counterproductive. Your taking from yourself and giving to people who could care less about this country or your kids. A worthless investment. I'm not sure Romney is solution but I can definitely tell you that Obama's Hollywood alliances will spell financial ruin for the other 48 states. Don't pay for it Democrats or Republican. Don't let people like Whedon influence you into giving up your highest office to it.

Love Hollywood? Well, most probably do. They are the only moral teachers many Americans have these days. I believe Hollywood is a source of an enormous amount of anti-wisdom and even downright wicked falsehood.

Obama loves Hollywood. Bread and circusses are hard to beat.

  7. Wayne says:

Joss what a bunch of hogwash!!!!!! How did you come up with stuff!! Romney will be the next president in a landslide.

    • sdfgh says:

i'm not saying who will win, but a "landslide"? wayne, you are delusional. all we're getting out of this election is a mudslide. good luck to us all, i say. i think this country will need it, regardless of who winds up in the big-boy chair.

    • Heisenberg says:

Let me guess — more exclamation points means bigger landslide, right?

  8. Maxx Velocity says:

Where do you people get this idea that liberals have no money and rely on the government? Have you seen how low in the average income for a "red state" is? Have you failed to notice that blue states pay most of the taxes, which are in turn consumed mostly by red states?

I know Fox News makes it hard to gather any actual facts… maye you should change the channel now and then.

    • EyesWideOpen says:

    • LibertyDwells says:

Have you failed to realize that there are no blue states? There are blue urban areas within states that give those state's Electoral College votes to the left. Those blue urban areas also suck up all the money paid in taxes by the rest of their states and the neighboring red states. Also worth noting, My income is a third or less of what one might expect to make in NYC and live in a decent, not great, apt there. Here? I drive late model Cadillacs and live in a 4000sqft log home on 12 acres with a lake as a front yard. No noise, no thugs, no smog, but a nice rural 2 lane that takes me to the "big city in a couple hours(if I wan to go) for all the things you imagine are "culture". So maybe you should get a grip on reality…which would probably mean getting out of your blue stained zone of unreality.

    • guest says:

Conservatives never let facts get in the way of how they think but later after outsourcing Romney gets in and the job they have is gone they'll blame Obama for it…

    • Tess says:

Okay, also it turns out by most recent statistics (yesterday):… "Nationwide, violent crime fell for the fifth year in a row, while property crime fell for the ninth year in a row, according to the FBI analysis.
The Midwest region, which includes Ohio and Indiana, among other states, accounted for 19.5 percent of all violent crimes, trailing the South, which includes Kentucky, with 41.3 percent, and the West with 22.9 percent, according to FBI counts. The Northeast region had the lowest percentage of violent crime at 16.3 percent.
The Midwest region accounted for 21.1 percent of the nation’s estimated property crimes (43.2 percent occurred in the South, 22.8 percent in the West and 13 percent in the Northeast).

Okay, folks still want to talk about the Godless blue states? Give me a break, red states. Go to confession, or come to Jesus or something.

  9. Tina says:

  11. NoireFilms says:

Is this a good time to tell the defensive humorless folk here that zombie's consider conservative tools a delicacy?

  12. Doug Katz says:

Am I actually reading serious comments about this? Really? Have things gotten so bad that we have lost our sense of humor. For all you overly serious people know, Romney might even think this is funny. Lighten up.

  13. nph says:

Relax people. This isn't a scathing political attack, it's a comedy sketch. There's no zombie apocalypse teetering on the balance of who wins the election.

  14. Robert Castle says:

One is liable to conclude from this small sample that Republicans by and large. are not predisposed to understand irony or metaphors when they encountesr them . If this is so it might to some degree explain their commitment to Romney, the modern day King Midas.

  15. guest says:

conservatives have no sense that's why they love MITT i outsource your job to china ROMNEY.

  16. guest says:

conservative don't understand humor that's why when they get old and they have no social security they'll wonder why and it will dawn on them that they let Mitt the outsourcer and enemy to poor and middle class the power to destroy it with his voucher plan …

  17. hunny boo boo dyde says:

What I do notice that both conservatives and liberals are whining talking about

  18. Nave Torment says:

Actually that makes a lot of sense — The Avengers were fighting against a demi-god who wanted to "free" people from the idea of "freedom," in other words, behind Loki's New World Order talk was the heart of a right-wing conservative who believed in a rule through war because his intellect is "better" than those of common man; the Avengers were not sanctioned by a government-operated group of SHIELD Council Members, Fury's willingness to remain malleable to direct-orders allowed him to see past that overtly pragmatic and objective orders to destroy Manhattan; and finally we have a team of heroes consisting of a Randian cyborg, an Aryan super-soldier, a self-proclaimed demi-god from Norse lore, and a doctor who operates best when he's left to control his own condition. Oh and spies. Lets not forget spies.

I kid, I kid. It's all good, you can read it both ways and still have a blast :D I for one am glad that Whedon's actually going on record o state his political beliefs instead of staying politically-correct and being apolitical. Good on him for putting zombies as well.

  19. LS_MS_J says:

Lol, this was great. FYI: I'm a Christian, female with a MA degree that has NEVER been on welfare (as a child or as an adult) born to immigrant parents. Yes, I'm brown. Mexican to be specific. Am I liberal? Maybe. Do I think my taxes will go up if Romney wins, hell yes. They went down under the Obama administration. Yes, they were higher during the Bush. Romney hasn't stuck one position longer than he had to. Can't vote for anyone that has no conviction. If you are willing to vote for someone that lies to you, go right ahead. Just like the Bush years, the country will sufer. At least when President Obama has had to change his position on something or recant somethig, he calls it for what it is and doesn't gloss over it or talk down to his constituents like Romney has talked down to you Republicans.

Lastly, I just want to point out that polical commentary made in Whedon's movie must have gone over your heads.
