Star Trek” icon Leonard Nimoy has undergone “emergency surgery for a minor, benign, abdominal condition” and was forced to cancel a scheduled appearance at the Carpenter Performing Arts Center, according to Michael Field, marketing director at the Cal State Long Beach venue.

Field added that the 79-year-old actor and filmmaker is “recovering beautifully.”

The event, with tickets at $65, was billed an intimate evening of reflection on the role of Spock and “Star Trek,” one of the most enduring creations in contemporary sci-fi.  ”We are working to reschedule the performance,” Field said in statement. ”Ticket holders will be informed as soon as details are confirmed. Updates will be posted on the Leonard Nimoy page at www.CarpenterArts.org. [The star's wife] Susan Bay Nimoy extends her thanks to everyone for their get-well wishes.”
