‘Man of Steel’ TV spot: Henry Cavill soars as Superman

“Man of Steel” isn’t flying into theaters until June 14, but Superman fans can get a glimpse of the Zack Snyder film in a new TV spot, out today.

At 32 seconds, the first “Man of Steel” television spot is more or less a shorter version of the previously released trailers for the film. The ad shows English actor Henry Cavill, who portrays the film’s winsome hero, soaring in the iconic red-and-blue suit, taking the hand of Lois Lane (Amy Adams), standing in a burning room unscathed by the flames, and being escorted down a hallway in handcuffs, flanked by soldiers, all while gorgeous choral music plays and key characters provide emotional voice-overs.

“My father believed that if the world found out who I really was, they’d reject me,” Cavill says in one voice-over. “He was convinced that the world wasn’t ready. What do you think?”

Like the previous trailers, the ad doesn’t offer much in the way of laughs — a decision that appears to be in keeping with Snyder’s serious approach to Superman’s mythology.

“He’s this amazing ambassador for all superheroes,” Snyder told Hero Complex. “What was it about him that cracked the code that made pop culture embrace this other mythology? What we’ve made as a film not only examines that but is also an amazing adventure story. It’s been an honor to work on. As a comic book fan, Superman is like the Rosetta stone of all superheroes. I wanted to be sure the movie treated it respectfully.”

“Man of Steel” also stars Kevin Costner and Diane Lane as Jonathan and Martha Kent, Russell Crowe as Superman’s father Jor-El, Laurence Fishburne as Perry White and Michael Shannon as General Zod.
