New York Comic Con: Batman, ‘Daredevil,’ more in weekend panel picks

New York Comic Con kicked off Thursday with an Adam West Batman tribute, a spotlight on “Doctor Who” actor Arthur Darvill and Disney’s previews of “Tomorrowland” and “Big Hero 6,” among other panels.

The pop-culture expo, held at Manhattan’s Javits Center today through Sunday, is expected to draw some 130,000 fans for a four-day convention that has come to rival the West Coast’s Comic-Con International in San Diego.

If your schedule for this weekend’s events is still up in the air, consider these must-see NYCC panels slated for Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

FRIDAY

TNT’S “The Librarians
11:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m., Empire Stage 1-E
The upcoming series (based on the TV movies) follow a group of librarians on their adventures to protect mysterious, ancient artifacts. This panel features a sneak peek of the first episode, which premieres Dec. 7, and discussion with executive producer John Rogers and cast members Christian Kane, John Kim, Lindy Booth and Rebecca Romijn.

Marvel 75th Anniversary: Guardians of the Galaxy – Then and Now
2:00 – 2:45 p.m., Room 1A18
Following the blockbuster summer movie, this panel dives into the history of the quirky team and other Marvel space characters. Panelists include Gerry Duggan (“Nova”), Al Milgrom (“Captain Marvel”), Doug Moench (“The Inhumans”) and Jim Starlin (“The Infinity Gauntlet”).

DC Comics – Batman: Gotham Rising
3:15 – 4:15 p.m., Empire Stage 1-E
It’s a big year for the Bat-family as the Caped Crusader celebrates 75 years in comics. This panel features DC’s roster of all-star Bat-team creators, including Babs Tarr, Brenden Fletcher, Brian Buccellato, Cameron Stewart, Francis Manapul, Greg Capullo, James Tynion IV, Marc Andreyko, Peter Tomasi and Scott Snyder.

Archie Forever: Life, Afterlife and Beyond
4:15 – 5:00 p.m., Room 1A05
This isn’t your grandfather’s “Archie.” Come see what’s new in “Afterlife With Archie,” the just-launched “Sabrina” series and more. Panelists include Jon Goldwater, Dan Parent, Francesco Francavilla and Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa.

IDW Publishing: The Big One
4:15 – 5:00 p.m., Room 1A14
IDW reveals its top-secret NYCC announcements. Join this Q&A with editor-in-chief Chris Ryall, president Greg Goldstein, editor Sarah Gaydos and marketing vice president Dirk Wood, with special guests Gabriel Rodriguez, Kate Leth, Jonathan Maberry, Joe Harris and Scott Tipton.

“Once Upon a Time” Has Frozen Over!
4:30 – 5:30 p.m., Empire Stage 1-E
“Frozen” ice queen Elsa has come to Storybrooke this season, and co-creators Edward Kitsis and Adam Horowitz and Emma Swan actress Jennifer Morrison will be on hand to discuss the new season story lines and characters in the hit ABC show “Once Upon a Time.”

Marvel’s head of television Jeph Loeb and “Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.” star Clark Gregg share news about the show and premiere an episode before it airs on ABC.

Kids Costume Parade

Kids 12 and under show off their costumes in a parade led by puppeteer Leslie Carrara-Rudolph (Abby Cadabby on “Sesame Street”) and her puppet friend Lolly Lardpop. Arrive 30 minutes prior to register your child. To register, please arrive 30 minutes prior to the parade since space is limited and is not guaranteed.

“Birdman”
6:00 – 7:00 p.m., Empire Stage 1-E
Join Michael Keaton and Edward Norton as they discuss the upcoming black comedy “Birdman,” about an aging actor famous for playing a superhero decades earlier.

Dark Horse and Sega Present: 35 Years of Alien
6:15 – 7:00 p.m., Room 1A24
Dark Horse achieved one of its earliest successes with the 1987 publication of “Aliens.” Now, following the release of the highly anticipated “Fire and Stone” and Sega’s “Alien: Isolation,” the two companies take a look back at a wild publishing history based on the frightening 35-year-old franchise. Join Dark Horse publicist Aub Driver, along with Mike Richardson (president and publisher, Dark Horse Comics), Randy Stradley (vice president of publishing, Dark Horse Comics), Paul Tobin (“Prometheus”), Joshua Williamson and Chris Mooneyham (“Predator”), and a few surprise guests.

The Dark Knight turns 75 this year, and some of the most influential Bat-creators in comics are on hand to discuss Batman’s past and future. Panelists include Blair Herter, Geoff Johns, Greg Capullo, Jim Lee, Kevin Conroy, Neal Adams and Scott Snyder.

Spotlight on Randall Munroe with Bill Nye

Webcomic “xkcd” creator Randall Munroe and Bill Nye the Science Guy take the stage for a fun, educational discussion of hypothetical questions and really weird science.

Image Comics: I is for Impact

The creators behind some of Image’s weirdest and most successful titles discuss bringing their bizarre ideas to the page. “The Karate Kid” 30th Anniversary Cast Reunion
