Princess Leia faces life after Alderaan in Mark Waid’s Marvel series

Princess Leia takes center stage in her own limited comic series this spring, and on Tuesday, fresh images arrived teasing the adventure from Eisner Award-winning writer Mark Waid (“Daredevil”) and artist Terry Dodson.

Set just after the events of “Star Wars: Episode IV — A New Hope,” “Princess Leia” No. 1 chronicles the heroine’s life as she struggles to come to terms with the destruction of her home planet of Alderaan and continues the fight against the ruthless Empire.

“How does she really cope with losing her entire world once the events around that loss have calmed down somewhat? Does she choose to be a princess of nothing – or does she set out to rebuild her heritage and civilization?” Waid said in an interview with Marvel.com.

“Princess Leia” No. 1 arrives March 4, with Terry Dodson providing interior and cover art, and colors by Rachel Dodson. Variant covers come courtesy of Alex Ross, Mark Brooks, J. Scott Campbell, Skottie Young and Butch Guice. (Click through the gallery above to see a selection of covers.)

Leia, of course, will return to the big screen later this year, with actress Carrie Fisher reprising her royal role for director J.J. Abrams in the much-anticipated “Star Wars: The Force Awakens.”
