Scarlett Johansson talks Black Widow’s fighting style [video]

Scarlett Johansson was most recently on screen playing a chemically enhanced drug mule in Luc Besson’s sleeper hit “Lucy,” but it wasn’t the actress’ first action-packed role this year.

Back in April, Johansson reprised her role as Natasha Romanoff (better known as Black Widow) in “Captain America: The Winter Soldier,” conceived as Marvel’s answer to the gripping thrillers of the ’70s.

The film, which sees Chris Evans’ Steve Rogers team up with Black Widow on a number of key missions, even as the patriotic superhero comes into conflict with S.H.I.E.L.D. leader Alexander Pierce (Robert Redford in a key supporting turn), currently stands as the highest grossing domestic release of 2014, having surpassed $259 million at the U.S. box office.

Those who missed it in theaters — or simply want to see it again — now have a chance to catch up with the star-spangled superhero movie, which arrives on digital 3-D and HD Aug. 19, before coming to Blu-ray, DVD, Blu-ray 3-D combo pack and On-Demand Sept. 9.

The “Winter Soldier” home video package comes stocked in all formats with special features, including audio commentary, deleted scenes, bloopers and other tantalizing tidbits, including a behind-the-scenes look featuring Johansson talking about her role as Black Widow, and the stunt work required to make the spy look formidable.

In the featurette, Johansson says that making three previous movies with Marvel gave her the confidence to show off her fighting bravado and to feel comfortable (as much as a person can) with dangling 60 feet in the air.

Working closely with her stunt woman Heidi Moneymaker, whom Johansson first met on “Iron Man 2,” the flame-haired actress says that “the two of us have now fused into one person.”

  1. Nice says:

Captain America is currently the highest grossing film of the year? I had no idea it's 700 million was more than the 1 billion that Transformers has already made -_-

  2. Billy Wilder says:

It took a move about brains for the studios to come to their senses. Just heard from a solid industry source that due to the success of Lucy, Scarlett has just been offered the starring role of Ann Hannify in Dust. It's a story of survival about a young school teacher who leads a bus load of children out of the Dust Bowl to the promise of a new life in California in 1935. The studio head bypassed all the usual suspects to get Scarlett on board. Dust is being described as Gravity on Earth. Sounds exciting. Scarlett is the best actress out there, now she's finally going to get the chance to prove that she can carry a big budget dramatic film on her own .Way to go, S.J.
