A new trailer for “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles” has arrived, introducing more scenes of the skateboarding heroes on the half-shell and spotlighting the film’s take on the character design.

The movie mutants appear to take after the gritty characters from the original comics, created by Kevin Eastman and Peter Laird in the early 1980s, instead of their goofier counterparts, made famous in the animated TV series that ran from 1987 to 1996.

In this latest movie adventure, directed by Jonathan Liebesman and produced by Michael Bay, the Turtles get a new origin story, with Megan Fox starring as reporter April O’Neil, a key ally for the masked crime-fighters who bear the names of famous Renaissance painters and must protect New York City from a villain known as Shredder (rumored to be played by William Fichtner).

The Turtles, of course, have long been featured in live-action and animated films and on television, in addition to their comic book and video game exploits. They were last on the big screen in the 2007 animated film “TMNT”; before that, they starred in a live-action franchise launched in 1990 that concluded with 1993’s “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles III.”

Due in theaters Aug. 8, the new movie also stars Alan Ritchson as Raphael, Jeremy Howard as Donatello, Pete Ploszek as Leonardo and Danny Woodburn as Splinter, as well as Will Arnett, Whoopi Goldberg, Abby Elliott and others.

    April should be a redhead

  2. bobbo says:

i shamelessly love what they're doing with the turtles.

  3. Geo says:

This movie doesn't look or sound anything like the original comics.

Other than a dark style it has nothing in common with the Eastman & Laird stories or indeed any version.
