Two days and a little under three hours are left until “Terminator” fans get a first glimpse of humans fighting for survival against Skynet and those pesky robotic killing machines in the next installation of the franchise, “Terminator Genisys.”
A motion poster was released this morning, showing the head of a partially deteriorating Terminator robot with the iconic Brad Fiedel-orchestrated theme music playing over it. Once done, the poster segues into the site’s countdown clock, teasing the movie trailer’s Thursday online premiere.
Based on the original 1984 film by James Cameron, “Genisys,” which stars Arnold Schwarzenegger, Emilia Clarke, Jai Courtney, Jason Clarke, Matt Smith, Byung-Hun Lee and J.K. Simmons, is directed by Alan Taylor.
The film has recently received some scrutiny over its plot, with die-hard fans upset over a retooled origin for the series’ heroine, Sarah Connor, played by “Game of Thrones” star Clarke.
According to reports from Entertainment Weekly, the “Genisys” version of Connor — mother to humanity’s leader in a future war against machines — has been orphaned at age 9 after a Terminator kills her parents. She’s also been raised by a different, older Terminator, played by franchise veteran Arnold Schwarzenegger, to become “a highly trained antisocial recluse.”
The film is slated to open in theaters July 1, 2015.
