During our chat with Marvel Studios chief Kevin Feige, Yahoo! debuted the trailer to next year’s “Thor.” A few viewers commented on how awesome it looks, like JxXxRJxXxR, who wrote:  “That last shot in the Thor trailer of him “smashing” the ground and it breaking into a wave…JAW ON THE FLOOR!”

What are your reactions to the trailer and general expectations for the movie now that you’ve had a peek?

Awesome trailer. Any concerns about Thor being 'powered down' in the movie are dispelled by this trailer. Odin ripping Mjolnir from Thor, Thor smashing Mjolnir into the ground causing a massive upheaval, the Destroyer no less, the evil of Loki, and an epic story to boot.

A pagan religion that's been re-imagined as yet another (yawn) superhero saga….gee, wonder if the bad guys will lose. Will Thor become christian, like the rest of the norse? Does any of this make any sense whatsoever?

      Like Christianity?

    • Bill says:

Lighten up, in this case, its not a pagan religion, its a comic book movie. And you know it looks awesome. Do you have any remorse for the comic book Thor being a christian? I understand where you are coming from, but you need to get real.

I hope Feige and the other powers-that-be at Marvel Studio get out of their own way this time. Iron Man 2, Spider-Man 3, X-Men 3 and Wolverine were turds of the highest order, and in my mind it definitely felt like there were too many cooks in the kitchen. Marvel's m.o. is to tab lesser-known helmers who can get railroaded into bad creative decisions. The best thing they can do is get a heavyweight with a singular vision that will not be compromised (Jim Cameron was attached to Spider-Man for years, before it fell apart–I, for one would've loved to see that one). Without that, Marvel's Studio's batting average will remain akin to that of a utility infielder on the Kansas City Royals.

@Dan. Waitasec, weren't Spider-man 3, X-Men 3, and Wolverine under Fox and NOT Marvel Studio. Iron Man 2 was not bad–it just wasn't great. The expectation raised by RDJ's career resurrection and John Favreau, who is not a hack, in Iron Man 1 just couldn't muster enough umph! for the sequel. The third act was far too reliant on special effects. You can have a great second act, but very few effects heavy movies can get away with an ending that just ends by having the bottom drop out and the principals having little to say or do with each other.

No small feat to bring Aesgaard to hollywood, this one may be for rent very soon. Obvious right away that Thor is a bit on the skinny side in this flick. God of Thunder is built like a pro middle linebacker. Hemsworth is a fine actor, but when acting tough looks like acting, it don't seem tough. He has some muscles that look good, but Thor was built like a pro middle linebacker. And why the Arnold Schwarzenegger accent? Son of Odin is a Nordic Viking God type dude. Not from eastern Europe. Would Kirby approve? Hopefully the film will be great and prove me wrong. Portman is a huge plus.

    • Guitarchitect says:

Look at the trailer again, he simply has an English accent and if you've ever seen a linebacker outside of the uniform and pads they don't look all that huge. He looks reasonably appropriate for the part.
At least you're optimistic that the movie will be decent as opposed to some of the others who seem to be a little too hard to please. I was even happy with Daredevil. My biggest disappointment is the repetition of the same villains in sequels and not giving us someone new. Did Dr. Doom really have to be in the Silver Surfer Fan4 movie ? How about giving us Galactus like they should have ?

  6. Doug says:

obvious, insufficiently integrated and even cheezy effects with unexciting, what appear at least in this typically choppy trailer to be, poorly staged fight scenes. disappointing. Thor is not as established a character as Spidey. I see trouble here.
