Casting has been announced for the long-awaited “Warcraft” film, with Rob Kazinsky, Ben Foster and Toby Kebbell set to play lead roles, joining previously announced cast members Paula Patton and Travis Fimmel.
Dominic Cooper is in negotiations for a part as well, Legendary Pictures announced Wednesday.
Duncan Jones (“Source Code”) is directing, though details of the plot (from a screenplay by Jones and Charles Leavitt) are still unknown.
“Warcraft,” based on the wildly popular “World of Warcraft” video game from Blizzard Entertainment, is set to begin filming in Vancouver in January.
Kazinsky most recently appeared as a hot-shot pilot in Guillermo del Toro’s “Pacific Rim” but is perhaps best known for his performance in “True Blood.” “Six Feet Under” alumnus Foster has earned critical acclaim from his performances in “The Messenger” and “3:10 to Yuma” and is set to appear in “Lone Survivor” in January and a currently untitled Lance Armstrong biopic. Kebbell appeared in this fall’s “The Counselor” and stars in the upcoming “Dawn of the Planet of the Apes.” And Cooper’s credits include “Captain America: The First Avenger” and “Captain America: The Winter Soldier,” in which he plays Howard Stark, father to Robert Downey Jr.’s Tony Stark.
The actors join previously announced Patton (“Mission: Impossible — Ghost Protocol”) and Fimmel (“Vikings”).
The film is still several years away from theatrical release, due out in March 2016.
