Wonder Woman is finally coming to the big screen.

Gal Gadot has been cast as Diana Prince in Zack Snyder’s upcoming untitled Superman/Batman film.

The film is set to begin shooting early next year and to make its way into theaters July 17, 2015.

“Wonder Woman is arguably one of the most powerful female characters of all time and a fan favorite in the DC Universe,” Snyder said in a statement. “Not only is Gal an amazing actress, but she also has that magical quality that makes her perfect for the role. We look forward to audiences discovering Gal in the first feature film incarnation of this beloved character.”

Gadot, the Israeli actress and model who is best known for her work in the “Fast & Furious” films, will join a star-studded cast including Henry Cavill, who portrayed Superman in Snyder’s “Man of Steel” earlier this year, and Ben Affleck, who takes over the role of Batman from “Dark Knight” trilogy actor Christian Bale

Affleck, of course, has a history in the superhero genre. He previously starred as the blind Marvel hero Daredevil in writer-director Mark Steven Johnson’s 2003 film.

What do you think of Gadot’s casting? Let us know in the comments.

  1. kendall says:

how was this not Kat Denning? crazy…

  2. Laer Carroll says:

Too skinny. But we're stuck with her.

  3. @jdtorber says:

OMG … horrible. She's so skinny. Don't they know that Wonder Woman is supposed to be an Amazon? She's supposed to be able to beat guys up …. this girl is not bad looking but she will not be at all believable in the role.

  4. Souzou says:

Hooray! She'll be great….better than Affleck as Batman for sure. This film may redeem utself yet.

  5. Laer Carroll says:

No muscles, no boobs, no butt. Might be fine for Wonder Girl. But not Wonder WOMAN!

  6. mrd143 says:

too short and too skinny to play Wonder Woman

  7. dwight burke says:

wonder woman is my fav of alltime and I hope they do not mess her up!!!wonder woman now is like a demi-god as strong as superman and they better have her flying not in her plane

  8. @finnaes says:

Seriously Hollywood? You couldn't find a smaller, skinnier actress that'll work for scale? Good job :(

  9. DGoodman says:

I hope they hire the trainer who got Henry Cavill ready for Superman. She is very beautiful but it is going to take A LOT of hard hours and heavy lifting in the gym for her to build muscle on that skinny frame. Good luck–I hope she's good! Wonder Woman is my girl! :-)

  10. Arkham says:

It's not her physical features that bug me the most. It's the fact that I've seen her in three movies and still have no idea who she is. If they cast an unknown with big film potential, I'd be fine (it'd offset the Ben Affleck decision). But they cast the least memorable actress from several HUGE blockbuster movies and gave her the most important female superhero role in film history.

  11. matt montana says:

She is hot but too skinny. WHAT A GOD AWFUL PICK.

  12. Shwabam! says:

Affleck at Batman and this Twig as Wonder Woman…someone fire the casting director…DC is about to TANKKKKK!!

  13. Konstantine57 says:

Are you kidding me? Wonder Woman is an amazon. This girl is a stick figure.

  14. Mike Winder says:

I was rooting for Jaimie Alexander, who actually looks the part. Prove me wrong, Gadot!

  15. Brian says:

I agree she is going to have to add a little bit of muscle mass to her frame to be more convencsing.

  16. Itai says:

Remember your comments after she’ll blow your minds.

That’s exactly the stuff people said about Heath Ledger when he was picked to play the Joker.

Same goes for Ben Affleck too BTW.

Gal, go kick their asses. I’m so proud of you!

    • Andria says:

Yea, but HL didn't have to run around in a costume that portrays strength among women. This woman not only looks like a model in the face, but…..did you see her in Fast and Furious. No build whatsoever.
I'm a female involved in MMA and I dont see strength…….I see fluffy. Whether she can act or not is something else, but the physical perception for this beloved character must be spot on.

  17. GDC says:

Yeah, this Superman movie series is definitely not living up to the hype in my eyes. PASS!!!

  18. Lolis says:

It should have been Megan Fox who looks exactly like the original one!

  19. Mike says:

    Eva Green!

  20. Temmere says:

It physically pains me that they did not go with Bridget Regan, who looks the part so much it's ridiculous.

    • ebbyintampa says:

Bridget Regan would have made the ULTIMATE Wonder Woman, so with you there! I loved her in the Sword of Truth TV series. It seems like TV actresses are cast and portrayed more realistically in their roles than Hollywood starlets. Even the women on The Walking Dead, starved and running for their lives are more muscular than this lady.

  21. cory dupont says:

It should have been Jaime Alexander! Damn fools!

  22. guest says:

We need to go to change.org to get another Wonder Woman

  23. Juancito says:

EY guys, LET"S BE REAL!…Gal Gadot, is the one for this wonder woman cast, remember she have everything you can imagine!…Hollywood can fix the rest, a good trainer and a good photoshop!!…but she have the type…I would love to see her in action…She is GORGEOUS!!!

    • Claus Talon says:

I think you need a few gallons of coffee there amigo- The ONLY thing she has is a pretty face. It takes more than that for this character-IF you really know anything about the character.

  24. Fan O'Fairness says:

Actors change their appearances all the time for roles, but that doesn't make their acting more or less memorable. It's their talent and their craft as actors that make them good in those memorable roles – so give this Gal a chance. Maybe the "Fast" series was just a stepping stone.

  25. NteZephyr says:

The Director and Casting Director sure know how to tank a movie before it gets off the ground. They should have talk with the people who created the viral video on Yahoo for selecting an actress.to play Wonder Woman At least they know what they are doing!

  26. NteZephyr says:

See youtube Wonder Woman short by Rainfall Films! Get a clue

  27. Shock says:

First I figured, anybody but Christian Bale and that fake voice would be better. I was wrong, they picked an actor with the personality of a box of socks. Then I figured, maybe the Wonder Woman character may save the day, then they pick Twiggy. Ugh, I'll wait for Netflix on this one.

    • kate says:

I agree, bad casting choices for batman, superman, and wonderwoman. Btw, I thought amy adams as lois lane looked so bloated and out of shape throughout the movie. I have seen her in other movies and she looked slimmer. So definitely a miscast with her too. More than anything, i thought the superman story was just told poorly in my opinion.

  28. Brian says:

I always thought that the woman who played Zena the warrior princess would have made a great Wonder Woman.

  29. Julio Bro! says:

Extremely skinny and without presence; Wonder Woman is an amazon warrior, not a Victoria Secret angel. This should've Gina Carano or some other great looking, but strong and agile woman.

  30. ebbyintampa says:

My pick would have been Bridget Regan – Google her. She was a sword-wielding warrior/Queen in the Sword of Truth TV series. She is also beautiful, intelligent, has that "noble" quality (not just "hot") and would have been a much better fit than Ms. Gadot.

  31. dina says:

gal gadot ! an israeli . xone of us in rosh ahaayn

  32. COMIC VINE HERO says:

I knew they'd screw it up, but everybody knew that. The producers of these DC comics movies are movie people who want to sink comics because comics are competition for their movies. That starts with them screwing up the casting of the three main characters. I'll pass on seeing this as will the rest of you. If it's not broken, don't fix it and break it worse!! Very disappointed, but it was an expected horror and humiliation. Download the torrent or direct-to-video, at best.

    • Claus Talon says:

You may be right about the producers-They sure won't catch up to Marvel with this kind of casting. I don't know about you but I've been let down by the DC franchise starting right AFTER "The Dark Knight". TDKR was my least favorite of the trilogy, and The "Man of Steel" continued down the slope for me. VERY BAD CASTING CHOICES- from the lead on down-IMO.

      • kate says:

I have watched the dark knight with heathe ledger as the joker at least more than a few times but couldnt watch tdkr or superman movies in its entirety during the first time around. Just got bored with both. I also couldnt take anne Hathaway seriously in her role as bat girl.

  33. delanto says:

    go gal

  34. Guest says:

Wonder Woman is anorexic? All part of the plot,; The Amazon Princess has an evil and nefarious eating disorder that must be overcome before she can join The Justice League.

  35. william says:

Ok love the fact that finally womnder women will be shown now the only problem I have is the same as I had when storm was presented to us in the xman movies. Even tho gal is a great actresses and loved her in the movies that she has stared in is she really our amazon princess I true die hard fan fells that there will be noone who could bring this to life better than linda carter but dont think gal has the build to pull this off

  36. Claus Talon says:

I guess it must be a generational thing or something, but today's audiences seem willing to accept anything as long as there is an abundance of special effects and wow factors, without regard to anything else. From Cavill to Affleck and now THIS. Cavill as this generations Superman(swinganahmiss!) Affleck as the newest BatBruce(STEEERIKE TWO!!)-Now a pretty-faced NO-BODY chosen to step into the role of the iconic AMAZON?(grab your gloves and take to the outfield boys!) I had high hopes for DC comics films after "The Dark Knight". I thought, "They've FINALLY got it right!" Then they announce the cast for MOS, and I think," WT_". I didn't think anyone could cast a Superman film any worst than "Superman Returns", but IMO they sure did. Cavill? Amy Adams? FIshburne? and now this main character gender switch with Olsen? I remember hearing some people mentioning Beyonce being selected to play the next Wonder Woman and I thought, "Are they out of their mind? How ridiculous can one get? I'm guessing pretty much more ridiculous now! There must be a Sith lurking somewhere amongst them. Ok, my rant is over.

  37. bree says:

These comments are disappointing. Of course Wonder Women is slightly larger than Gal Gadot, that does not mean however that you should criticize her or the producers. Instead congratulate and hope for the best. Everyone said Jennifer Lawrence was too big to play Katniss in THG…look how well she did anyway. Movies are about acting, give her the chance to show what she can do.

Not everyone is going to be happy about selections, but you can at least try.

    • Claus Talon says:

SLIGHTLY? Diana Prince is AMAZONIAN. She is supposed to reflect the perfect mixture of beauty, femininity, regal nobility and warrior mettle. She should at least LOOK the part. Comparing her with Jennifer Lawrence's casting doesn't hold water, because Wonder Woman's history and development is already documented in its character history. THG is NEW-and only defined by whatever small sample of source material is available-so exceptions could be made with the casting. There has ALREADY been a defining prtryal of Wonder Woman that has to be matched and this selection does NOT indicate that it will.

  38. bruce True says:

This film is going to a flopper before it starts, why not actress who played on the short film by rainfall or even Supermans mother in the man of steel.

  39. V lopez says:

I want a blue eyes, dark hair Wonder Woman. That's all I'm asking! (And the beautiful doll for my collection)…

  40. Therese says:

Well, she is a bit young but she will grow into the part. She also has a lot of wieghts to lift. She needs to add about 15 to 20 pounds of muscel. Other than that, she has a good look. :)
