After decades of Batman and Superman movies, sequels, reboots and spinoffs, Wonder Woman is finally getting a turn in the spotlight.

DC Entertainment’s leading lady will star in a standalone film in 2017, Warner Bros. announced Wednesday during Time Warner’s investors conference. (DC also announced films for Shazam, The Flash, Green Lantern, Aquaman, Suicide Squad, Cyborg and a two-part project for the Justice League.)

Gal Gadot, who is playing Wonder Woman in 2016’s “Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice,” will reprise the role in the standalone movie.

“Wonder Woman is arguably one of the most powerful female characters of all time and a fan favorite in the DC Universe,” Snyder said last year when Gadot was cast. “Not only is Gal an amazing actress, but she also has that magical quality that makes her perfect for the role. We look forward to audiences discovering Gal in the first feature film incarnation of this beloved character.”

Comics creators, including longtime Wonder Woman writer Gail Simone, took to Twitter to celebrate the Wonder Woman movie.

The casting for wonder woman is horrible. I want to reserve judgement, but there will have to be a lot of suspension of belief on the audiences part. How am I supposed to believe this beautiful twig of a human being can generate any force for any physical activity except for running alone? Even then, judging by the complete lack of muscle tone in her legs in any of her pictures, she is probably walking alone, not running.

    • Theo says:

No need to Whine LOL Wonder Woman is a Demigod my friend. Not the she-hulk the size of her muscles really is irrelevant.

      Anyway

Linda Carter Was REALLY skinny when she played Wonder Woman
Cate Beckinsale was thin when she played Selene in Underworld
      Supergirl from Smallville was thin
      Supergirl movie she was thin
      Jamie Alexander was Thin
Even Tom Hiddleson was THIN when he played loki much thinner than captain America meanwhile he was much stronger.

Gal Gadot is no different besides based on comic history Wonder Woman was NEVER considered exceptionally muscular for a woman.

    • Krypton's Stepson says:

Her strength is essentially based on 'magic' so her physical frame is not the primary factor. But you have to adhere to comics aesthetics of course…

  2. Atomic Kommie Comics says:

Just hope they cast Lynda Carter as Hippolyta, Queen of the Amazons.
    Who would play Zeus?
    (BTW, I hate the New 52 "origin"…)
