“Captain America: The Winter Soldier” isn’t the only upcoming film releasing a teaser to promote a new trailer this week.

Filmmaker Bryan Singer today tweeted a link to a new clip from a forthcoming trailer to his anticipated “X-Men” sequel, “X-Men: Days of Future Past. ” Just a few seconds of footage, the teaser features a number of the most iconic X-Men characters, including Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine and Patrick Stewart’s Professor Charles Xavier.

“Days of Future Past,” due out May 23, 2014, picks up after Matthew Vaughn’s 2011 prequel “X-Men: First Class,” which chronicled the mutant superheroes’ origins as young people in the 1960s, discovering and learning to manipulate their powers.

The new film, adapted from one of the beloved comic book story lines conceived by Chris Claremont, stars actors from both “First Class” and the original “X-Men” trilogy, which launched in 2000 with Singer’s original “X-Men” and arguably ushered in the new golden age of comic book films.

“Future Past’s” expansive cast includes James McAvoy playing the younger Xavier, with Michael Fassbender and Ian McKellen playing Magneto.

Also featured are Jennifer Lawrence as Mystique, Anna Paquin as Rogue, Nicholas Hoult as Beast, Ellen Page as Kitty Pryde, Halle Berry as Storm and Evan Peters as Quicksilver.

At San Diego’s Comic-Con International in July, Singer explained that he enjoyed directing ensemble films, though, in this case, the project was something of a “logistical nightmare” with such a large roster of actors.

He also noted that as a child of the 1970s, “Days of Future Past” gave him a chance to revisit the fashion of the era, sometimes a mixed blessing.

“Peter Dinklage looks like my father in this film,” Singer said.

“That handsome?” replied Dinklage, who plays Bolivar Trask in the movie. He added, “I’ve got a sweet Tom Selleck mustache I’m sporting.”
