‘X-Men: Days of Future Past’ trailer: Wolverine to the mutants’ rescue

Filmmaker Bryan Singer last week tweeted a link to a new clip from a forthcoming trailer to his anticipated “X-Men” sequel, “X-Men: Days of Future Past. “

Just a few seconds of footage, the teaser featured a number of the most iconic X-Men characters, including Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine and Patrick Stewart’s Professor Charles Xavier.

On Tuesday, fans got a look at the full trailer, which is heavy on Wolverine, who must travel back in time to save the present-day mutants.

“Days of Future Past,” due out May 23, 2014, picks up after Matthew Vaughn’s 2011 prequel “X-Men: First Class,” which chronicled the mutant superheroes’ origins as young people in the 1960s, discovering and learning to manipulate their powers.

The new film, adapted from one of the beloved comic book story lines conceived by Chris Claremont, stars actors from both “First Class” and the original “X-Men” trilogy, which launched in 2000 with Singer’s original “X-Men” and arguably ushered in the new golden age of comic book films.

“Future Past’s” expansive cast includes James McAvoy playing the younger Xavier, with Michael Fassbender and Ian McKellen playing Magneto.

Also featured are Jennifer Lawrence as Mystique, Anna Paquin as Rogue, Nicholas Hoult as Beast, Ellen Page as Kitty Pryde, Halle Berry as Storm and Evan Peters as Quicksilver.

“This is a character piece, and it’s mostly what we showed at Comic-Con,” Singer said Monday night when Hero Complex chatted with the filmmaker at a screening of the horror film “Trick ‘R Treat.” “It’s basically a piece that introduces the characters and the vibe of the film.”

i'm not sure "anticipated" and "x-men sequel" should be in the same sentence

I've yet to be as impressed with Singer's works as I've been with others. Some of the casting choices leave much to be desired and the alteration of comic lore I find the most displeasing aspect of his projects. "Days of Future Past" should have been left alone if it wasn't to be done correctly. The constant spotlighting of Jackman is an overused marketing ploy whose time has ended. Sure-He should be featured, but leave the time travel to the actual characters that did it in the storyline. Where are Cable and Bishop? How can you do this tale properly WITHOUT these two core characters playing central roles? The ONLY thing good about "First Class" was Fassbender's portrayal. Singer just doen't get it as far as I'm concerned.

I have my doubts… I personally don't feel Singer is great with multi-ensemble casts, and ends up focusing waaaaay to much on Wolverine/Jackman in these films. This trailer seems to show it's going the same way in this one, which is such a shame considering how First Class redeemed my opinion about X-Men films.

Just looks like another bad Wolverine movie. Singer sure does know how to kill good characters, although since that seems to be the way things are at Marvel I guess they don't care (One Moment in Time). So Singer just continues his love of Wolverine fest. The Avengers proved that a good ensemble could be done, to bad Singer seems incapable or just does not care what fans want.
