‘Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice': New release date avoids ‘Cap 3′

Batman and Superman will no longer be staring down Captain America the next time they appear on the big screen. Warner Bros. will now open “Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice,” Zack Snyder’s follow-up to “Man of Steel,” in 3-D on March 25, 2016. The film previously had been set to open May 6, 2016, opposite Marvel’s third “Captain America” film. The studio also revealed that it plans to release two DC Comics-based films annually starting in 2016: They will be released on Aug. 5, 2016; June 23, 2017; Nov. 17, 2017; March 23, 2018; July 27, 2018; April 5, 2019; June 14, 2019; April 3, 2020, and June 19, 2020. A new release date schedule also includes two untitled Warner Bros. “event” films — opening Nov. 16, 2018, and Nov. 20, 2020. PHOTOS: The roles that led Ben Affleck […]

Comic-Con 2014: Hollywood stirs fan fervor to the very end

avengers-duo
If Hollywood seemed a tad quieter than normal this past weekend, there was a good reason: Like moths to a porch light — or Batman to the Bat Signal — film and television creators, executives and stars were drawn en masse to downtown San Diego in an effort to drum up excitement for their upcoming wares at the annual Comic-Con International pop-culture expo. The unveiling of the first footage from the highly anticipated superhero mash-up “Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice” and an extended early glimpse at “The Avengers: Age of Ultron” may have sent the biggest reverberations through the four-day film, television, video-game and comic-book fest. But there was plenty of other news to stir the excitement of the 130,000 or so convention-goers who descended upon the San Diego Convention Center, many decked out in costume, to watch exclusive […]

‘Batman v. Superman': Twitter reacts to Wonder Woman costume reveal

In conjunction with Saturday’s Comic-Con appearance by “Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice” stars Ben Affleck, Henry Cavill and Gal Gadot and director Zack Snyder, fans got their first glimpse of the new Wonder Woman when Snyder tweeted out the first photo of Gadot in costume. It’s been a busy week for those awaiting the highly anticipated 2016 follow-up to “Man of Steel,” as Snyder also recently shared a new close-up photo of Ben Affleck under the cowl. Even in its earliest stages, the upcoming movie, which brings together a triumvirate of DC heroes and sets the stage for a future “Justice League” film that Snyder will direct, has been the subject of strong commentary in the fan community. Many openly criticized the director’s casting choices — including Affleck as Batman, Godot as Wonder Woman and “Social Network” star Jesse Eisenberg […]

Zack Snyder’s early peek at “Batman v. Superman” kicked off the Warner Bros. Comic-Con International panel with some serious fanboy firepower, but the studio still had three other highly anticipated films in store for the 6,500-odd fans gathered in Hall H: Andy and Lana Wachowski’s sci-fi epic “Jupiter Ascending,” George Miller’s post-apocalyptic action reboot “Mad Max: Fury Road,” and the final installment in Peter Jackson’s blockbuster “Hobbit” trilogy, subtitled “The Battle of Five Armies.” Neither the Wachowskis nor “Jupiter Ascending” co-star Mila Kunis were on hand at the panel, so it fell to Channing Tatum to introduce footage from the space opera, in which he plays a genetically engineered warrior who comes to Earth to reveal to Kunis’ Jupiter Jones that she is interstellar royalty. “We really try to do something different, something you’ve never seen before,” Tatum told the crowd, calling the Wachowskis “absolutely out of their […]

Comic-Con 2014: Wonder Woman costume, ‘Batman v. Superman’ teaser revealed

Wonder Woman
Usually when a studio has a surprise to unveil at their Comic-Con panel, they save it for the end to keep people guessing. But Warner Bros. tossed out that playbook for the packed crowd at its Hall H presentation and pulled out the big guns right off the bat, so to speak, offering fans an early, albeit brief, look at its much-anticipated superhero mash-up “Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice.” From the moment the presentation began, it was clear that something major was afoot, as curtains pulled back to reveal jumbo-sized screens wrapping around the front of Hall H. As concept art from “Batman v. Superman” began flashing on the screens, fans, not surprisingly, erupted. Then moderator Chris Hardwick brought the film’s director, Zack Snyder, to the stage. With the film still early in its production, it’s anyone’s guess how much has actually been […]

Batman V. Superman: Dawn Of Justice
Henry Cavill strikes a pose in a new still from “Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice.” Released Thursday, the image sees the actor in dramatic form, staring down the camera in a rain-soaked environment that resurrects the ominous gray palette of 2013’s “Man of Steel.” Set for release on May 6, 2016, the new film will, like its predecessor, be directed by Zack Snyder, with Cavill reprising his “Man of Steel” role as Superman. Ben Affleck takes over as Batman and Israeli actress Gal Gadot portrays Wonder Woman. Jesse Eisenberg has been cast as Lex Luthor in the film, which will lead in to a planned “Justice League” movie that Snyder also will direct. Jason Momoa to play Aquaman in ‘Batman v. Superman,’ reports say

Ladies and gentlemen, meet your Aquaman. Jason Momoa is set to suit up as the Atlantean king in Warner Bros.’ superhero movie “Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice,” according to multiple reports. HitFix was first with the news. No official announcement has been made; so far the studio and Momoa’s reps have been mum. Momoa, a swarthy hunk who played the Dothraki warlord Khal Drogo on HBO’s “Game of Thrones” and the title role in 2011’s “Conan the Barbarian,” has been rumored to be circling “Batman v. Superman” for months but has largely disavowed any involvement. In January, he told MTV News, “I get it all the time. It’s just a rumor. I swear.” He added, “Man to man. You can punch me in the face [if I’m lying].” The 34-year-old actor would bring a different look to Aquaman, who in the comics is a blond […]

Batman is getting a next-gen makeover — and so is the Batmobile. Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment and DC Entertainment unveiled the first footage of the Batmobile from Rocksteady Studios‘ “Batman: Arkham Knight,”  which had been set for release later this year but is now due for the PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC in 2015. The follow-up to 2009’s “Arkham Asylum” and 2011’s “Arkham City,” “Arkham Knight” is set one year after the conclusion of “Arkham City” and will offer players a chance to lead the Dark Knight on a mission through Gotham and take on the Scarecrow, who has united with a familiar crew of rogue’s gallery regulars. Judging by the cast list — and a brief shot in the trailer — it appears that featured villains will include the Riddler, the Penguin and Two-Face. Watch a clip of […]
