The wait is over early for Batman and Superman fans. The new “Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice” trailer was officially released Friday in advance of the announced IMAX screenings set for Monday. The trailer offers viewers a glimpse into the gritty world that exists after the events of 2013’s “Man of Steel” that exposed the populace to Superman. “Is it really surprising that the most powerful man in the world should be a figure of controversy?” asks a mysterious voice as various scenes featuring Superman, played by Henry Cavill, flash across the screen. As the trailer jumps between more scenes featuring the Man of Steel, various voices are heard discussing saviors, aliens, hope, power and corruption before focusing on a desecrated statue of the extraterrestrial superhero. Fans who have been anticipating more looks at Ben Affleck as the titular […]

Actor Jesse Eisenberg looks sinister as Lex Luthor in the first image from the upcoming “Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice.” He’s less built than the Luthor in the comics, but just as bald. The image — a black-and-white portrait of the actor in character — surfaced on Entertainment Weekly on Wednesday morning. Eisenberg is hardly the first actor to go bald for a villainous role on the big screen. The film world has often depicted characters with a penchant for evil with shiny noggins. Max Schreck’s blood-hungry performance in the 1922 horror film “Nosferatu” is hauntingly hairless. More recently, Karen Gillan got sadistic in hues of blue as Nebula in “Guardians of the Galaxy.” Before Eisenberg, Kevin Spacey took a turn as DC Comics’ wealthy supervillain in “Superman Returns.” Jesse Eisenberg as Lex Luthor: Twitter reacts to Batman/Superman casting Plenty […]

The first image of Jason Momoa in costume as Aquaman is out, revealing the “Game of Thrones” star decked out as the DC Comics superhero. “Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice” director Zack Snyder tweeted the image late Thursday with the caption “There is only one true King. #unitetheseven.” It’s unclear whether the hashtag refers to the seven seas, over which Aquaman rules as the King of Atlantis, or the seven members of the Justice League superhero team, of which Aquaman is a founding member. The character is expected to appear in Snyder’s upcoming film, which also unites Batman (Ben Affleck), Superman (“Man of Steel” star Henry Cavill) and Wonder Woman (Gal Gadot). The other original members of DC Comics’ elite superhero team are Green Lantern, the Flash and Martian Manhunter. In the new image, Aquaman appears to have undergone a […]

Wonder Woman is getting her own movie. “Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice” actress Gal Gadot will star in the film, slated for release in 2017, Warner Bros. CEO Kevin Tsujihara announced at Time Warner’s investors conference Wednesday. Gadot, who is playing the lasso-wielding Amazon in 2016’s “Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice,” will reprise the role in a 2017 standalone film. The Wonder Woman film is one of 10 DC Comics-based film franchises Warner Bros. has in production, including two Justice League films and movies based on the Suicide Squad, Aquaman, The Flash, Shazam, Cyborg and The Green Lantern, Tsujihara said. After “Dawn of Justice,” Zack Snyder’s follow-up to “Man of Steel,” opens in 3-D on March 25, 2016, fans can look forward to “Suicide Squad,” directed by David Ayer (who wrote “The Fast and the Furious” and “Training […]

The Batmobile hitches a ride with the Millennium Falcon in a new video released by “Star Wars: Episode VII” director J.J. Abrams’ production company Bad Robot. The 36-second clip was posted quietly to YouTube Thursday morning under the title “Hunka Junk” — a nice nod to Lando Calrissian. The video pans across Han Solo’s iconic space freighter before ending with a shot of the “Dark Knight” trilogy’s Batmobile tumbler clinging to the Falcon’s underside. The genre mashup is the latest jab in an online battle between Abrams and “Batman V. Superman: Dawn of Justice” director Zack Snyder, who instigated the back-and-forth by tweeting an image of “Man of Steel” star Henry Cavill dressed in Jedi robes and wielding a light saber. #SuperJedi pic.twitter.com/PyNbELK8UZ — ZackSnyder (@ZackSnyder) July 24, 2014 Last month, Bad Robot responded with an image of C-3PO donning Batman’s […]

If Hollywood seemed a tad quieter than normal this past weekend, there was a good reason: Like moths to a porch light — or Batman to the Bat Signal — film and television creators, executives and stars were drawn en masse to downtown San Diego in an effort to drum up excitement for their upcoming wares at the annual Comic-Con International pop-culture expo. The unveiling of the first footage from the highly anticipated superhero mash-up “Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice” and an extended early glimpse at “The Avengers: Age of Ultron” may have sent the biggest reverberations through the four-day film, television, video-game and comic-book fest. But there was plenty of other news to stir the excitement of the 130,000 or so convention-goers who descended upon the San Diego Convention Center, many decked out in costume, to watch exclusive […]

In conjunction with Saturday’s Comic-Con appearance by “Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice” stars Ben Affleck, Henry Cavill and Gal Gadot and director Zack Snyder, fans got their first glimpse of the new Wonder Woman when Snyder tweeted out the first photo of Gadot in costume. It’s been a busy week for those awaiting the highly anticipated 2016 follow-up to “Man of Steel,” as Snyder also recently shared a new close-up photo of Ben Affleck under the cowl. Even in its earliest stages, the upcoming movie, which brings together a triumvirate of DC heroes and sets the stage for a future “Justice League” film that Snyder will direct, has been the subject of strong commentary in the fan community. Many openly criticized the director’s casting choices — including Affleck as Batman, Godot as Wonder Woman and “Social Network” star Jesse Eisenberg […]
