“Lucy” and “The Fifth Element” director Luc Besson is returning to live-action sci-fi, and he’s bringing two rising stars with him. Dane DeHaan and Cara Delevingne will suit up as the leads in “Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets,” based on Pierre Christin and Jean-Claude Mezieres’ comic “Valerian and Laureline,” first published in France in 1967. The titular heroes are special agents able to manipulate space-time. The characters had many adventures together in the comic, with the final installment published in 2010, so it’s not out of the realm of possibility that Besson is aiming to launch a new film franchise. The French filmmaker announced the news on Twitter, starting with his first tweet since joining the social network: My first tweet ever! Let’s share a real news! My next film is a big sci-fi: #Valerian and the City of […]

To hear Dane DeHaan tell it, his name was not at the top of the list of performers under consideration to star opposite Andrew Garfield in “The Amazing Spider-Man 2.” “I had to really approach them,” the actor told Hero Complex in an interview this week about being cast as Peter Parker’s childhood friend Harry Osborn. “They wouldn’t even give me an audition for the movie at first. I really had to fight hard and bang down doors just to get my first audition.” Fortunately, his persistence paid off. DeHaan brings a twitchy, desperate energy to Harry, whose friendship with Peter is tested in the new film, which arrives in theaters this weekend. Directed like its predecessor, 2012’s “The Amazing Spider-Man,” by Marc Webb, the sequel sees Spidey facing off against several foes, including Paul Giamatti as Aleksei Sytsevich, an […]

The new trailer for “The Amazing Spider-Man 2” showcases lots — and we really mean lots — of Spidey action, with the web slinger going up against not just Jamie Foxx’s villain Electro but also Chris Cooper’s Green Goblin. “Every day I wake up knowing that the more people I try to save, the more enemies I will make,” says Andrew Garfield’s Peter Parker at the beginning of the clip. The trailer then shows just how many enemies, and how much destruction, will be unleashed in the sequel, due May 2. Like its predecessor, “The Amazing Spider-Man,” the new film is directed by Marc Webb (“ Days of Summer”). Emma Stone returns as Gwen Stacy, with Cooper and Dane DeHaan joining the cast as Norman Osborn and his son, Harry. Sally Field also reprises her role as Peter’s Aunt May, […]
