“Avengers: Age of Ultron” ranks as one of the most hotly anticipated releases of 2015 — and now, it’s become a little bit clearer what fans will see when the movie opens next May. Check out the official plot synopsis released this week by Marvel: “When Tony Stark tries to jumpstart a dormant peacekeeping program, things go awry and Earth’s Mightiest Heroes, including Iron Man, Captain America, Thor, The Incredible Hulk, Black Widow and Hawkeye, are put to the ultimate test as the fate of the planet hangs in the balance. A new TV spot for this summer’s coming monster blockbuster “Godzilla” debuted Wednesday, spotlighting epic scenes of destruction presumably caused by the King of All Monsters. The clip comes on the heels of an earlier spot released Tuesday that showcases explosive action scenes and concludes with an image of Godzilla himself. “Godzilla” is directed by Gareth Edwards, whose ambitious independent film “Monsters” garnered critical praise for its mash-up of big visual effects and small art-house atmosphere in 2010. The Avengers are assembling in Italy. Filming is underway in Europe on “Avengers: Age of Ultron,” and new photos from the production showcase Elizabeth Olsen as Scarlet Witch and Aaron Taylor-Johnson as Quicksilver, as well as Jeremy Renner back in costume as Hawkeye. Also pictured is writer-director Joss Whedon. (Click through the gallery above for a look at the production.) Whedon’s follow-up to his $1-billion-plus 2012 hit, “The Avengers,” will see the iconic team of heroes gather once more to battle the villainous Ultron (James Spader). It’s unclear how closely the film will tie to the “Age of Ultron” story in Marvel Comics, or whether Ant-Man (the protagonist in another upcoming Marvel film, directed by Edgar Wright) will be part of the film. In the comics, Ultron is an insane, sentient robot that tries to destroy its creator, Dr. Henry […]
